Region locking really hurts this game for people who play with friends or family who live abroad
I live in Brazil and have a Brazilian friend who's moved out to Portugal, and we used to play on NA servers because we get much more acceptable ping on those (around 130 ms) than if we played on SA or European servers, where one of us would have low ping while the other would have over 250 ping, essentially making the game unplayable for one of the parties. But now that we can't choose the server region anymore, how are we supposed to find a match with fair ping for both of us?

I'm not entirely sure why the option to choose servers was removed, but if it was to prevent cheating, please, there must be some way to deal with cheaters without having to kill the experience for thousands of players who won't be able to play with friends who live in other continents due to not being able to choose a server with acceptable ping anymore :/

Yes, this ♥♥♥♥ sucks. Im kinda good at the game, not really good, not bad.... But since las update, when i see people first, and start shooting, they look at me and start shooting and kill me... Im like wtf, i see this guy 1 sec before and he kill me, and i didnt do half damage to him.... Happens like 5 times now, pretty sure is the region lock that sucks, locked with USA players, chinese, and im from south america. This ♥♥♥♥ sucks really. Cant even kill 1...... Just let me play with people from south america, omg.

My point is that depending on your friend's region, playing on your own region or on your friend's region isn't the best option.

I'm from SA, and if I play with my friend from Europe on European servers, he gets low ping, but I get over 250 ping. It's good for him, but unplayable for me. If we play on SA servers instead, the problem is inverted: I get low ping and he gets massive ping.

If we play on NA servers, however, the ping "balances out": it's around 130 for both of us, making it not as ideal as 30 ping, but still very much playable for both parties instead of one having over 250 ping.

So you expect NA players to suffer laggers and hackers so you can play with your friend in a region neither of you belong to. - I dont think so.

Hackers can come from any region, no matter if there's region lock or not.

And I don't understand your complaint about "laggers". How is someone playing with 130 ping more of a lagger than someone playing with 250 ping? Letting players choose the region would actually make it so they can choose the server where they and their friend will have the LOWEST possible ping. Region locking is what forces you on a server where you'll have over 250 ping.

130 ping really isn't that bad, but 250 is.

130 is not a good ping. It might be playable for you, but it sucks for the people you play against. Having a high ping is a BIG advantage in a shooter game. Everyone else is getting delayed info about your movements and actions. Its 130ms for every packet to and from your client. Thats 130ms everyone has to wait to see what you do, making it much harder to shoot you when moving. Ever shot at someone moving that you cant seem to hit with numerous shots, thats likely because they are lagging.

If you want to play with your friend, you need to do it in your own regions. And even then, they should just disable that. Its not fair to other players. High latency players are terrible for gameplay in shooters. Its why all other shooters have used ping caps on servers for eons.

Yeah, except this game has been plagued with hackers playing outside their own regions to grief people. Region lock eliminates much of that. Look at the latest numbers on how many banned accounts from China there have been the last 6 months, millions of them. Most of them were playing in NA and EU.

The high ping is a much higher detriment to the high ping player than everyone else, because that player will have a delayed reaction time. Sometimes you might see an enemy, start shooting, then die, and when you check the death cam, you didn't shoot at all in their game.

And I still don't understand why you're saying it's better for us to play in our own regions, because that'd make lag higher, not lower. It's not what we want, and it's not what you want either.

If you're from Canada and wanted to play with a friend of yours from Asia, would you really want to connect to Asian servers and get at least ovoer 250 ping, when you could connect to European servers and get around 150 or so? Or force your friend to connect to NA servers, where they'd have over 250 and wouldn't be able to play properly and cause all of the issues you yourself said would happen with a high ping player?

In an ideal world, internet would be so fast that pings wouldn't be an issue for any region in the world, but unfortunately, for some people, the only way to have an acceptable game experience with their friends is playing on "midway point" servers. A region between you and your friend's regions to make ping more acceptable. We had that option before, and now it's been snatched away :/

Well I can sympathize that you want to play with your friend. But I dont see where other players should have to suffer so you can. Maybe they need to have separate servers for people who play with friends in different regions. One in each region, to accomoddate people like you and your friend. I personally dont want my game to suffer so two people can both play outside their own region in mine.

I think you are vastly overestimating the impact of two 130-ping players on a server, especially in a game that's not really an eSports thing or anything, it's just people trying to have fun. I think that ping would only really have a serious impact if we were talking about an official tournament or something like that, in which case the lag should really be as minimal as possible.

Like I said, it's not ideal, but there's not much else that can be done, and whatever issues that could come from that lag would be very minimal compared to the issue of not being able to play with your friends. Heck, some people ONLY play games like this with their friends, so if they can't do that, the game might as well be dead for them :/ I know my friend and I can't be the only ones in the world with a problem like this.

And having servers specifically for cases like this would unfortunately split the community too much, which would make matchmaking much harder.

You buy a game to fulfill a desire. You continue to play a game for those desires and when one gets taken away, its like a death in the family.
