Why does PUBG have so many large updates so frequently?
I'm on a capped internet plan (120gb) as I live rural and I'd like to know why every single update every couple of days is 1gb+........ WHY

The updates are so big because most of the game content is in large .pak files, and if they change one bit of content, they have to release the entire .pak file again.

Seriously though, I don't understand what they're putting into these updates that causes such large downloads? And with them being so frequent... I use up my entire months internet in no time... better off just not playing?

After a 1.6gb update........ nothings changed?

Do test server updates apply to all users? Can this be changed? I don't ever use the test servers, would like to play the game as it is and update when required, not when behind the scenes testing and betas are being done... I'm not one of them.

$10nzd/per gb of data off cap which is ridiculous.

you ask why so big updates occure? let me explain you why...

let's say there is a 1,6gb file and you change a single line of it. now you want to send the file to a friend... guess what he needs to download again. YOU GUESSED IT RIGHT. 1,6gb!

seriously, if a few files got changed by an update you obviously need to download those files again. i hope that answered your question

and by the way a limited datacap sucks and is outdated. no matter what internet provider uses this technique, never choose it! 120gb is nothing nowadays... you can download rainbow six siege + maybe the ultra 4k hd texture pack dlc and you would already reach your cap

I suspect in New Zealand it's hard to find ISPs that don't have data caps. Bandwidth out there is restricted due to it being so remote.

Yeah its rural so only 4G is applicable. I agree but theres nothing I can do, no copper/fibre cables laid here. NZ. Full of sheep and thats it.

This makes sense to me. Cheers for clearing it up. Might have to just update at a net cafe or something with a usb stick lol.
