Sound direction ??
Does anyone have problems with pinpointing where the sound is coming from? I never had any problems with this is CSGO or any other game i played but sound in pubg is just off.. i am hearing people 90* away from positions if they are on the edge of hearing, cant hear exactly where they are in different stories of houses etc.. its just off most of the times.

tl;dr - how different is pubg sound vs csgos?

You probably do not understand the crack and whiz sounds, that is not the sounds of shooter. This sounds is the sounds of bullets that passing you and if you hear left or right the shooter could be in front of you or behind. Use Google to find the detail description. Lazy for me

directional stereo sound is what this game was built around for audio, using a stereo headset you can easily hear where and how far people are away from you.

PUBG only has stereo sound. That means there is a left channel and a right channel. All sounds have to be a combination of only left and right. That is why a shot from the back can sound the same as a shot from the front. Usually your brain can figure it out based upon the terrain, how the shot sounded, and the bullet sound which is more dynamic than the sound from the gun. Though, a silenced gunshot close behind can give you the impression of a shot from the village in front of you.

CS:GO has surround sound with 6 channels. CS:Go will give allow you to have different sounds for the front channel, left front channel closer to front, right front channel closer to front, left back channel closer to left, right back channel closer to right, and a combination of those to give you a more accurate sound direction. A sound from behind is formed using the 2 back channels instead of the 3 front channels, which allows surround sound headsets to give you a distinct sound that is different from a sound from the front.

P.S. PUBG Mobile has 7.1 surround sound with 8 channels!

What? The shot from behind could be recognised only as shot from your front. Best advice it is to turn your gamemodel on 90 degrees to confirm it or denied the source.

I do not get it, what kind of headsets do you use, my sound is perfect and I am recognised the source in most cases from the 1st bullet, it is rare when need second one.

I think you were referring to my typo. Yeah a shot from behind can be mistaken for a shot from your front, not from the right. Having to turn in directions to get a good idea of the sound direction is a problem since the attacker can do a lot of damage while you are trying to get a direction. It is a good way to do it if you can't figure it out with the bullet whiz, but it is something they should change in PUBG.

Like I said there are clues that your brain can use to get the direction, but there literally is only a left and right channel. There is a big difference between 7.1 surround and stereo, so you can't pull perfect sound out of this game with any headset. Even a surround headset needs the game to support it or else there is just the stereo 2 channel.

Edit: For example imagine you are coming off a hill and looking forward at an empty field. You hear a shot that plays from the left and right channel telling you it is either from the front or the back. You can see in front of you, so your brain automatically tells you it is from behind. Our brains really help fill in the blanks that the game leaves behind and the bullet whiz helps a lot due to moving from side to side.

This game has issues with vertical sounds, but never with horizontal.
Turning around during the sound of first shot is the best way to save your life. And if the shooter behind you it is the half of the way, if in front, anyway when your position has been compromised the best way to survive it is moving to cover, the chance that you will win this fight less then you just run away to the cover.

The stereo mixing was always bad... you need a minimum of quadraphonic sound to pinpoint location. Because for some weird reason, PUBG corp decided that sound vectors correspond to an arc region, not a vector. So if you try to pinpoint someone in front of you, turn left 5 degrees and you will hear him right.... then turn right 10 degrees and you will hear him left.

I thought I was going crazy... this game came out last year and they didn't do a 7.1 surround sound feature.... great.

The game does have 6 channel sound despite their FAQ saying the game doesn't support surround sound. Stereo sound is actually quite broken and you need surround sound or virtual surround sound to get accurate sound directions.

This video explains all the technicals.

In most games, stereo is fine. But in PUBG, any sounds coming within 60 degrees to the direct left or right will sound the same, meaning you can only pinpoint those sounds within 60 degrees of accuracy, which is a huge range. You need 7.1 VSS to be able to pinpoint the sounds coming from those left and right regions as well as you can from the other regions. Watch the video.
