why do people always lean?
I will look at replays and people are leaning before shooting all the time even in the open. Why?

leaning while shooting is imo more easier to control gun recoil.

The real question is;
Do they do the rockaway?

Because nobody in this thread seems to know anything about how to effective shoot someone, ill answer the question. Whenever your in-game avatar moves, your hitbox moves with it. Generally speaking, it is significantly harder to accurately eliminate a moving target, as compared to a much more lethargic one. Due to this, many more advanced players prefer to lean when shooting, as to change their hitbox for the positive. Despite several comments above this one, leaning does not explicitly mean "macro" or "cheats". I myself partake in this colloquialiy beneficial task, due to my preference for winning. In summary, the act of leaning while shooting, is not a exploit, but simply a technique used to enhance one's potential for success.

What kind of macros? Are you allowed to do that?

What I was doing for a few game was to bind my M2 on another mouse button and then bind ctrl to my M2 and then bind CTRL+A/D to lean and CTRL to ADS.

But it became so difficult to aim without leaning... so I switched back and don't use it often...

I've had loads of experience with fps and still think leaning is pointless in PUBG

hopping is more useful
