Is editing the ini. file for performance increase bannable?
So i just got the game an hour ago and sadly my system isnt the best, i can play but i would like to get some more fps by editing the ini.

I googled around and found a post on reddit that says editing the ini/cfg is a bannable offense?!
Is that true?

Im still pissed that i bought the game, downloaded it and then head on to google just to read that i cant edit the cfg. for a game that ive bought just because the devs cant lock certain cvars.
Its pretty obvious that people look into the cfg... and i cant refund because i bought it in a keystore... fml..
Normall ini editing is actually allowed to an extent. Like you want to force a resolution it wont get you banned. Changing cvars is something different o.O

why is it different? Im editing client variables, forcing a res would require me to do that, thats why its called a client variable. Its just for me.

"Having said that, this far, the only group of people who have been banned for changing game files are those who have removed textures from the game. I sincerely hope that you all agree that removing grass, trees, buildings, etc. from the game is cheating."

I've been playing with edited engine.ini to remove DoF for maybe 150 hours out of my 210+ (formatted pc recently so haven't done it again, game seems to be running good enough so I don't have to bother), and never got banned. Same goes for my mates. Not saying it's not possible, but hasn't happened to me yet. Make what you want of this information and test it out if you feel like it, most likely not getting you banned at the moment.

Thx, thats what i like to read.

But why the F wont they specify bannable commands anywhere? That would make it clear and easy.

Bluehole and the new developer PUBG corp aren't exactly known for their ability to inform the community. Most of the time they push small updates between major ones and don't give any kind of patch notes, leaving people more and more pissed when they once again break the game with some half-ass nontested 20mb patch.

keep dreaming. there is not one single game that has restricted acsess (except some alpha or beta versions) nor is absent of a cfg.

all they need to do is list illegal values. Like the ESL .. whats ok to have in your cfg and what is not. Thats a 5 minute copy paste thing to do.

You dont get it, the game is early access and things change .. like variable names in ini files, like ini files at all like functions eithin the engine. they will focus on removiong the abilty to exploit like this after thay have got the core mechanicals working. iuts what the test server is for.

I get it, i really do i just dont have trust in those devs. its early accsess after all and the game is a huge money grab right now as it is being promoted by streamers, i have the feeling it will die out afte rthe hype is gone. Also changing the ini. to remove forced PP and Bloom isnt an exploit. Have you even looked into it? There arent even options in there to turn of grass and other textures. I guess you never opened it did you? There is nothing in there that changes the core textures or engine. Gosh stop trying to look smart its cringy.

Game settings make USE of cvars. Theyr not cvars themselves. Cvars (console vars) are the ones not editable with the settings.

Editing them with Notepad is not.

If they really didn't want you to edit them, they would encrypt them.

editing ini files with external programs is not banable, neither is editing them with notepad.

you mix up CONvars (console variables) and Cvars (client variables)....
