When you die, do you...

Lose everything? I want to get into PUBG but before I do I wanted to understand something - If in a round I gathered weapons, clothing, etc., if I die do I lose all of that or do I just start a new round with those items again? I couldn't really find the answer I was looking for in the forums.

This. You start off with the clothes you jump in with and nothing more.

It's not DayZ. It's more arcade style. Every new round takes around 30 minutes and you go around looting quickly and then survive an ever decreasing circle. If you are alone, you die and leave, hop into a new game. If you are with friends they can revive you and you will keep your stuff but only in that game.

Its still a lot of fun - even though you don't keep anything. It can be frustrating at times - but IMO its worth it.

you cannot lose outfits you get from crates in main menu, that is on your profile and on your to chose your style.
outfits on field are temporary, you can switch outfit if you wanna try something or, for example, you got rainy map and you want to switch to somehting dark to have better chance of not getting spotted.

as for weapons, you start all over, each and every time.
but everyone has the same thing so it is fun

Anything you gather during the game will be "lost" whatever you win or lose. As explained above, only items to "stay" with you are the clothing you have gained from the crates. They are steam inventory items and they stay with you unless:
1. You break them down for BP
2. You sell them to other players in steam marketplace.
