Just need server stability to level out and it'll be fine.
Oh really? I always assumed Client side was outdated. The more ya know!
The way this usually gets solved is there is a wider spread of game servers, and the game matches people with similar connections/pings, so that nobody has a high ping advantage. Note that it's not just ping also, someone with low spec hardware can also create an imbalance.
Then there's server tickrate. Which from what I read is sub-60 in pubg ... 40 or even 20 depending on the flow.
My opinion of this, what they probably should do (I don't know a ton about game net code, but I've been doing software engineering for many years) ...
- raise minimum specs for the game
- add more servers, not focusing on geography, just add a bunch more servers to the existing layout
- do a quick connection test before matching the user with a server
- batch users together by similar connection quality
- increase the tick rate for the servers to 60, if & when the servers can handle it.
A lot of people are hung up about geography, when really it's more about players having dissimilar connection quality in the same game.
