It looks like Mane6 will be no more
According to former Mane6 members, there are only 3 people left after Modus laid everyone else off, and I'm going to assume that once Baihe and Vidra come out that they will be laid off as well in order for Modus to focus on Diesel Legacy.

I'm going to miss this game, but I hope that these devs get picked up soon because they worked hard and had a ton of passion for what they did here.

I really wanted to give everyone, including Modus, the benefit of the doubt here. This situation could've happened for any number of reasons and I didn't think it was productive to point fingers.

But firing everyone right before the holidays, and before the final update is even complete? Very bad look here, Modus.

I'm concerned as to how they're even going to finish Nidra and Baihe now. They're probably close enough to completion, but if they come out buggy or imbalanced I don't have any faith that they can or will fix anything.

Hope the team members are able to get back on their feet and find success in future endeavors. They have a ton of talent, did a tremendous job here, and deserve so much better.

Since they're keeping Nappy (combat designer), Beta (main programmer), and Lindsay (primary artist), the animation on Nidra and Baihe is probably complete, and obviously their voice lines are, too. What would remain are gameplay tweaks and balancing with internal testing. This is, again, just speculation. Lindsay will probably be needed to create art for the official website once the characters are released, and chances are someone like Anukan already wrote their lore entries for the website.

Even if he no longer officially works for Mane6, I would still accept anything Anukan said about the world or its characters after this point to be canon. Especially if he had already written it down while still working for Mane6.

My anger is now greater and more importantly it's at Modus and not Mane6. This game deserved better than their garbage

There's a lot to be mad at Modus for, but a small amount of the blame could also go to Mane6 for how the game was managed before selling to Modus, and for selling to Modus at all, or in the way they did (perhaps a different publisher, or better terms in the agreement signed, would have been better for the game - something like "if story mode cannot be completed, it must be told in another way" or "it is imperative that our Indiegogo rewards are fulfilled".

Wouldn't be that difficult to make an IDW series that tells the now-lost story of Them's Fightin' Herds.

Sadly, Modus still owns the IP, so they would have to either license it or sell it. If there was only 1 person who could own the IP, obviously that person should be Lauren Faust.

I think a big part is that before they got picked up, i think literally the only character who was gonna be added was Shanty and nothing else afterwards so Modus did get us the season pass.

I will say that Mane6 did probably overextend themselves with how much they wanted to do with the story mode.
Dogman15 Dec 14, 2023 @ 6:31pm
I think without Modus, the plan after Shanty was maybe to do Level 3s next, but then immediately pivot to story mode, but that didn't work out for whatever reason. And I think immediately after Modus bought them, their hope was to "double down" on working on story mode with the extra help and funds, but no, Modus wanted to sell monetizable characters, so 90% of production shifted to that.

I would have gone for a second round to push the story mode, especially considering I had missed the crowdfunding entirely. I'd flop down at least a hundred bucks for little to no reward. Digital/in-game stuff, even.

Transparency is more valuable to a passionate fan base than people would like to believe..

Since Gen 4 ended and the fall of BronyCon, it feels like this fandom and all the great stuff that was born from it is slowly slipping in obscurity, even without the pandemic accelerating things. As your audience dries up, so does funding...It's saddening to experience, albeit perhaps a necessary one.

Lauren Faust is more than just MLP. Shoehorning this game into that fandom is a negative.

Honestly, I'm no brony, but this game has appeal beyond that. The idea of, honestly, ANYTHING besides humans in a fighting game is something I've been begging to see more of.

I didn't even know that Diesel Legacy was being developed and published by Modus. I can't help but put my tinfoil hat on. It's also painfully ironic that Mike Z, dev of Skullgirls which was a direct inspiration for TFH, to the point where they licensed the engine from him, may have directly contributed to the death of a fan-project of his most famous work.

I think Mane6 fired a bunch of staff most likely cause of disagreement over continuing the story or refunding backers.

More likely because it wasn't economically feasible to keep spending money on developing the game because of low sales, and so they let everyone go because no more production of the game was being ordered.
