Would I be stepping into a community of weirdo furries if I started playing this?
Looking into it, this game ticks the boxes I want in a fighter: four buttons, most of the characters don't have a 623 move (I don't mind doing it, but it's annoying to me how some games make it tricky to do consistently compared to 236), small roster. But then, well, there's the elephant - or pony - in the room where I'm sure you can guess why I've not bought the game, and that's the art style. Part of it is I don't like the style much by its own merit, however there's also just... this fear I'd be playing with some straight up furries or something. Is this community fairly normal or not?

No I wouldn’t say that, they were supposed to have a big tournament a while ago brought a lot of players in which ended up getting causing a good percentage of people to look elsewhere and more recently they lost their partnership with humble games which will likely cause a big delay in major updates

The game has recently been acquired by the publisher Modus Games. That being said development will actually likely be accelerated.

As a side note if you would like to play together I can direct you toward people you may enjoy playing against or we can practice together.

Other than looking at people's profile pictures, there's not much furry about the community of TFH. Obviously a big chunk of players are bronies that carried over from the origins of the game, but the game and community have since then forged their own identity. In the official discord where most interactions take place, I don't even get a "furry" vibe at all.

The amount of exposure you've had to "furry" things in general will garner different opinions though. I've had people who've never seen TFH and barely seen MLP look at my screen and ask, "is that My Little Pony??" and to me they don't look similar at all.

So if you can handle talking animals on your screen, then no; there's nothing to worry about.

I think you should be more worried about whether the community is around at all. Throughout much of the week these days there aren't many people playing, even on Friday nights. I've had a hard time finding similar-skill matches consistently for a while. It feels like there's more newbies around than veterans, though. And I really don't want to be that guy with 700 hours fighting someone with 50, which is part of my issue.

a little bit of pubblicity for the game would help. I remember when Kizzie Kay played it on stream

Huge MLP nostalgia fell upon me lately, so I had to jump through dozens of hoops to obtain this game. I'm no fan of fightings, all I want is some heartwarming story about cute horsies. I hope, I won't be dissapointed.

P.S. if you check my profile, you'll see that for a long time I was playing as Diamond Tiara xD. And I convinced my bro to be Silver Spoon. And together we sucked at DOTA 2 -- oh, great times, great times.

There are weird and creepy furries in it, yeah. Some of them even made the game, sadly. Even so they ain't that common and the community is more diverse than it might look.

You would be stepping into my neutral range and that's when the overheads start.

Get it for the gameplay, try out the tutorial and arcade mode. Don't worry about what other people think of you. Feel free to engage with the game's community as little or as much as you want.

Never watched the show, I just like fighting games. A very wise man once told me these characters are just functions anyway.

Everyone I've met in this community has been super nice. I wish I could say that about some of my other favorite games.

No you wouldn't be, the community is very wholesome and not very "furry like" at all (whatever that means) They are far more concerned with actually playing the game and competition then... I don't know like talking about furry stuff.

As others said, I would be worried if there is even really anyone playing. Though that being said, the new update and eventual arrival to Console will boost player count higher, so I'd get practicing in Training Mode and Online Pixel Lobbies while you can.

I just know that even more people are going to pick up the game (again) when more chapters of story mode are added, so that will be something to look forward to. If you haven't played story mode yet, maybe wait until they activate the new achievements for it.

Man, I'll never understand being so self conscious you're afraid of being judged for *fighting* games.

Reminds me of in middle school where people would be terrified of touching other boys on the arm, lest someone call them gay.

I'd say no.
I'm far from a furry and the community is very friendly and even wholesome at times.
But that's just my experience, yours may vary.
