PS4 Controller Issues
Bought the game yesterday and have different issues with extra inputs for the second player controls. At first, it was simply repeated pressing down and would randomly press up but now it is doing other inputs as well (repeatedly bringing up control setup menu in training character select, randomly backing out of/accepting menu options). I tried opening in Steam Big Picture and it had the same issues. I disabled the big picture option for playstation controller inputs and it simply mirrored the inputs for p1 and p2. The game worked fine with Qanba Obsidian arcade stick in PC mode (haven't tried in PS4 or PS3 mode) but I would like to be able to use my Hitbox with this game.

Yeah, PS4 controllers are a bit fussy when it comes to some things, mostly because the Z-Engine recognizes them, and then Steam tends to try and force them to be recognized as a second controller since it doesn't expect the game to see it. If you go to your Steam controller options (Settings > Controller > General Controller Options) do you have any of the boxes checked there? Gonna check with another hitbox player to see what setup they're running with potential options and get back to you.

Edit: Checked up on it, and they've got none of the options in there checked, so they aren't getting any input doubling up shenanigans, so hopefully if you get everything unchecked on that settings page you should be good to go.

I unchecked all of the options and I am still getting the mirrored inputs. I tried plugging it in both before and after starting the game and it still gives all of the same issues. Is there anything else I have to do to get it to work?
Edit: Also tested in Skullgirls since it uses the same engine and had no issues. Training dummy was set to manual and didn't have any issues. Also didn't mirror inputs on controller input options.

I'm wondering about something. Do you know if you've got an older model of the hitbox? The newer ones are only PS4/PC, but the older ones support PS3/4/PC. Can you try plugging it in while holding the Guide button? If it doesn't do anything, then try holding down the 1P button (Square on PS, X on Xbox) while plugging it in.

The person I talked to about theirs with TFH has the PS4/PC one only, and it apparently is working just fine, so I'm wondering what could be the problem if yours is the same, but not working. Let me know how the above stuff works out.

That's a good idea. Mine is one of the older ones I believe. I tried both and they didn't work, though. Any other things I can try? I've only really had issues with one other game I tried iirc but it didn't pick up any inputs at all.

At... this point, I don't even know if it's the controller. Do you have any third party controller stuff installed? vJoy, for example? If you can open up your windows list of controllers (The "Set up USB game controllers" thing) can you let me know if there's only the one controller in there?

Ok. I don't have anything like that installed. The only other controller I have in my devices is a bluetooth Rockband controller but that hasn't been turned on the whole time I've been trying to get this to work and I don't think it's that. I think at this point I'll just use my stick and figure out something else in the future. Thanks for the help.
Edit: Installed the new firmware that was just released and now it works.

Haha, I saw the firmware get released yesterday, and figured I'd toss it your way if nothing else had made it work. Glad that it's that easy now.

Yeah. As far as I can tell, the new firmware just makes the hitbox show up as an Xbox type controller on PC so it works natively with basically everything. It's definitely more convenient.
