Arizona Feels Useless

A character with essentially no range and no approach options feels like she doesn't belong in a game with the likes of projectile spam velvet and range til crossups like paprika and oleander. Needing to burn meter to just get close enough to other characters while they get free chip and crossups whenever they want with no resource investment makes it feel like Arizona was designed before the idea of this becoming a game with ranged options came up.

That being said, if I am just not seeing some mobility she has, please correct me on it

I'll admit it is an uphill battle, seemingly. But her specials do have notable reach and her 2H sweep has pretty far range.

Those moves are nowhere near what's necessary to deal with the zoning power half the cast has, though. Especially with everyone in every lobby playing oleander, who can just back blink and projectile spam until they blink crossup to force you to take the damage. It doesn't look like arizona has any options at all to deal with it

You should consider learning the range of each of her lasso options & the ground stomp variants since those are Arizona's ranged tools. Not to mention that, alongside Paprika, are the only characters that have a forward run at their disposal. Arizona may be a rushdown character and her strenght lies at staying close to her opponents in order to pummel them with her combos, but she does not lack options to get close to proyectile zoners such as Eolander or Velvet.

I watched a stream tonight of this Arizona player and he was soooo good at spacing, zoners really had nothing on him. He just did what you do in any other fighter against a zoner and just walk them down and jump projectiles until you are in your sweet spot.

Projectile spam is actually fairly easy to navigate. Velvet has a lot of ranged options, but they're all kinda slow in either recovery or use. She doesn't have many escape options, either. Oleander can be annoying, but her projectile is one of the easiest to learn to dodge and her teleportation is definitely not as safe to abuse as some of her players seem to think.

Oleander's projectile spam isn't the problem for me. It's that even if you can make it through the projectiles, the range on her normals feels like it's way too big, which could theoretically be fixed if they had a much longer startup time before they reach damage frames. At this point though you wouldn't be able to fix that without reworking the character entirely.

Arizona is quite the formidable opponent, I just think she needs a little more practice before you can feel it. She hits pretty damn hard too. As Zankurous said, your lasso can work wonders.

If you haven't already found it, hit up 'Combo Trials' in training mode. While I've not checked out Arizona yet I'd be surprised if it didn't include a bunch of lasso-ing in there.

Super jump and Down, Down + Atk are her range and approach options. Same with the offbeat chance of using her lasso offensively.
