Paprika's specials
Why do they have to be hold motions? Can't they just be quarter circle forward and back? Hold motions are a pain in the ass that I can't figure out.

she's a charge character. it's nothing new within fighting games.

Charge characters do take a bit of getting used to but then you realize that they can be held diagonally then you can hide it a bit better or you can buffer it by using some attacks with a longer cooldown

What's a good way of doing charges? I kinda know what you're supposed to do (hold back for ~1 sec and do the rest of the input) but for some reason the move never comes out. Am I not holding back long enough? Am I doing the input too fast? Is there too big of a gap between the moment I let go of back and do the input, or too small of one?

Maybe charge characters will remain a mystery to me

She's a charge character, so you're supposed to play her defensively. Blocking makes your character think you're charging up an attack which adds to the mix up game.

Is it one second? The standard charge up attack in fighters takes two seconds. Gotta make sure you're going straight from back to forward with little to no touching of down or any diagonals with down.

Also, a good way to charge is while you're attacking so your enemy doesn't see it coming. Charge characters who are blocking are easy to predict.

I honestly love charge attacks. They're a great way to get out of a corner or throw your opponent off guard. They are a little quirky but once you figure them out it's real easy. I recommend going into combo trials and practicing it up a bit.

I admit, it's starting to get easier. Paprika's my favorite character and I wanna be good with her.

Hey, wasn't she named "Paprikapaca" at one point?

She's also my favorite character. Completely adorable and a very fun playstyle. Sadly, the amount of other people playing Paprika that I have seen can be counted on one hand?

And I'm not sure? I've been following this game for some time but admittedly I haven't kept a close eye.

I think "Paprika Paca" was somewhere at some point. It's the tag they use on Derpi for her. So it's like she has a last name? I doubt it's really official, though. She's just the Paps.

Just to add a bit: You can 100% do diagonals. I personally don't usually, but I've fought paps that do diagonals by crouching. Makes it hard to tell if a teleport or cartwheel are coming (though if you are ready it won't matter).

Ah right good point. I retract what I said about avoiding diagonals then. I meant it more in the case of it slowing down the input, but obviously they are useable especially when you're crouch blocking to charge an attack.

I actually missed that. Just was stating it since I had just seen someone doing it.
LOL oh ok. In either case what you pointed out let me see the error of my previous post.
Some people prefer charge characters and other motion characters. I do prefer motion characters but I believe people who don't should have characters for them too.
As for the reason why not many people play her, I think it's because she's pretty technical and doesn't have a straightforward gameplan like other characters (Arizona/Tianhuo you just RTSD, Velvet/Oleander you zone etc). It's kinda like Faust in GG, you need to be dedicated to master her shenanigans.
She's really hard to use because it feels counterintuitive to press forward to advance on an enemy, and in the middle of a combo set up string, holding back all of a sudden to charge up an attack is a bit jarring. Especially if you use her three hit Forward C attack and attempt a charge up during that!

To top it off, her teleport has a FORWARD charge input. I've never encountered that in any fighter.

So my hat goes off to anyone who brutalizes me with Paprika as she seems like a very difficult character to master, next to that other pony to her right in the selection screen. (Sorry still getting familiar with their names.) Controlling them dogs is a whole other story lol

Yeah I like Paprika and she probably would have been my main. But, I don't have much experience with charge characters (besides one of the sword girls in yatagarasu). If her teleports were down up they would be a lot easier to use especially in the defensive uses of it. I mean she is fine the way she is, but I have no chance against someone who rushes me down too hard. Even if I block because I'm tryinig to either teleport to cross them up or I accidently cartwheel because I was blocking or something. Might change my mind after some playing around today though. Gonna dedicate time to specifically her. Gonna find second character today. Velvet is already my first.
