How to translate the game
The game supports custom localization! Meaning that you can take all texts in the game and translate them to a language of your choice. It also means that you can find custom translation to your language, even if the game doesn’t support it officially yet!

To start translating do the following:
  1. Check this section to see if translation to your language already exists in the game, or is being worked on (maybe somebody needs your help!)
  2. Before you start translating, it is strongly advised you complete the game to avoid spoilers and such. Also to understand context.
  3. Update to the latest version of the game.
  4. Locate the Localization folder:
    • Go to Steam, and do a Right Mouse Button click on Dude, Stop in your library.
    • Click Properties -> Local Files -> Browse Local Files.
    • Game’s folder is going to open, and you should see the Localization folder.
    • If the folder isn’t there - update to the latest version.
  5. Open the Localization folder and you will see folder EN.
  6. Copy folder EN to make a new copy of the folder (let’s say EN - Copy). You can rename it to anything you like (FR, DE, RU, MySuperAwesomeLangauge and so on).
  7. DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING IN THE EN FOLDER! It will be rewritten with each game patch, and you will lose all your progress inside EN folder. So be sure to make a copy of it, and change your lines there.
  8. Inside the newly copied folder (let’s call it FR) you should see 3 files:
    • Awards.xml -> contains all lines for acquired and non-acquired cups/rewards in the game.
    • Texts.xml -> contains all text lines in the game, like console text, texts in puzzles and menu buttons.
    • Voices.xml -> contains all subtitles for the game as well as text endings for each puzzle.
  9. Start by opening Texts.xml file and locating (usually CTRL + F) the line English. Change it to the name of your own language (let’s call it French).
  10. And now you are ready to translate! Choose one of these 3 files and start replacing every English line with your own!
  11. Don’t forget to share your translation with us!

NOTE: Also don’t forget to make backups of your translation from time to time. Just in case.
