Besides, like others said, it'd be hard to have online co-op with this type of game due to lag and desync. D3 is the kind of publisher that works with a small team and puts out games on a bargain bin budget (which isn't necessarily bad, mind you).
I wouldn't expect them to have the means to make online work with a game that requires the fastest reflexes to survive like a shmup. It's easier to do with the regular EDF games because it's slower paced and easier to sync to other players and doesn't require nearly as fast reflexes.
