Class recommendations.
I thought I wanted to go Monk+Fist weapons but ended up disliking the combat style and am considering another class switch. Which class would you recommend and why?

Thief+fist

Thief because leveling that vocation lets you get the thief key which is how you open all those locked treasure chests you might've come across.

Fist because the combat style is more enjoyable than the other 2 thief weapons. The timing for parries seems more forgiving this time around and knocking monsters on their booty with it to get a charged attack in is great.

Magic Wand, so you can use the DLC weapon and sing the Dango Daikazoku song while killin' things.

Early on a Mage is very helpful simply for the ranged support.

Also, there are two advanced classes. You need to advance in the story fairly far, and have two specific classes at 20+ each on the character you want to advance. Then complete a side quest.
Sage = Mage+Priest
Gladiator = Warrior+Martial Artist

Thanks for letting me know! So both classes have to be at lvl 20 for the advanced class to be avaialble (plus the side quest)?

monk and fist gets really good once u unlock the ability to mash multistrike out. i perfer monk because his self heal/buff is pretty good.

dont worry about getting to 20 early on with all classes just play what u want while getting some good shared passives.. later on when u get the ability to class change u can carry ur level 1 to 20s really fast.

Priest/ess is probably not a good one to start with.

Yes both classes need to be 20 or higher, then at a certain point in the game you'll get a side quest from the vocation changer priest to unlock the advanced class.

Can you level everything, all classes and weapon proficiencies if you wish?
Black Hammer 27 ABR 2017 a las 7:26 p. m.
Not simultaneously. Only weapon I don't think you can get is the Greatsword, but there might be a few others.
dudex 27 ABR 2017 a las 7:27 p. m.
there are actually a bunch of character specific stuff u cant use.

dont worry about experiementing. the catch up mechanic is very nice.

So far my favorite weapon is the axe, so I'm hoping the advanced class (gladiator) gives me access to it.

Does anyone know exactly how you get the thief key from the thief class?

Gladiator has use of all warrior and monk weapons, so yes you can use axes.

As for the Thief key it's really involved. Here's a guide:

It's actually pretty helpful early. Wands are really nice. You can use the jumping quick attack to make a barrier, and the bubbles are really powerful. Plus you get to heal and buff, as well as do damage.

I looks like they got rid of the bow crit/infinite mana build option from the first game with the way mana regens much more naturally now. So I think I'm going to go bow and not feel so cheap this time around.
