On the fence with this one.
Hrm, I really gave it some serious thought, Ive looked up as many video's as possible and compliled as much information, from what Ive seen it doesn't seem like its worth the 80$ price tag. Why I say this is because I don't think there will be much in the way of longevity, the combo system for each weapon seem rather repetitive, even moreso than the dynasty warriors series, there are no real unlockables aside from the monster system and weapons, only a few uinique costumes and thats only for the main character. Usually when I give a game this much thought it means that its not worth the price of admission, maybe if the combat was more diverse and if you actually had movesets to unlock and such.

Been on the fence about myself aswell,I bought DQH1 without a second thought and loved it for the 40hours I played it on $20 and I'm still getting through the endgame bosses/quest,really wish this game had campaign coop in the world DQ but that's what DQH2 is for but at $60 it's pretty steep Maybe when I'm done with DQH1 and sit on it for awhile I'll check back to see if anyone if playing online in DHQ2.

Been playing this a couple of hours on the PS4, so I can confirm a couple of things:

1. The monster system (I assume you mean monster minions?) is not an "unlockable" system. When you defeat a monster, it has a chance of dropping a monster medallion. You can use this to either summon the monster as a minion that fights with you, cast a one-shot spell or let you turn into the monster itself for a short while. All depending on the monster. But once you head off to the next area or go back to town, you'll loose all the monster medallions. So they aren't "unlockable" as much as "grab them when they drop". Still a nice feature, though.

2. The characters are fun and feels different, and you can put anyone in your party. The only ones you can't remove is the MC you pick when starting the game (male or female), though you can use the other in your party if you want.

3. The real meat of the game are the Battle Record and in-game trophies. The battle log registers all the items you've collected, monsters defeated, monster medallions gathered etc. It's a bit pointless, but fun for completionists. But there are also trophies to get in the game, and these give you mini-medals you can trade for stuff.

4. There is an alchemy pot where you can enchance your accessories. This is surprisingly deep, so you can enchance things over and over for more and more bonuses. If you have the money and ingredients, of course.

5. When you use a weapon, you'll earn proficiency in it and get better. Sometimes this simply gives you more damage with the weapon, but you can also learn new skills with it. Plus, eveyr five levels of proficiency will unlock a Party Skill, or passive buff for the party. This include the other party members's proficiencies, so it's useful to get as many characters as good with their weapon of choice as possible. Though that said, you can only have five of these party skills active at once, so choose wisely. :-)

6. On top of all that, there are "special" dungeons you can try in either solo or online co-op (and possibly local co-op, though haven't checked.) These are found in a tavern, and are outside the main story areas. I imagine they can be quite fun and expand the length of the game quite a bit. Funny thing here is you normally use the MC you pick at the start of the game, but you can go with any character you've unlocked. A full team of Maribel's could be fun, and soooo annoying. Lol!

7. Last, but not least, there are places in the early areas I can't go to yet, as I lack certain skills etc. There's a barrier only a Priest can banish using a specific skill, and one barrier I need to destroy a monster to unlock. But what monster? I have no idea. It hasn't showned up yet.

So all in all, there are a TON of things to enjoy in this game. It mainly depends on whether you enjoy the actual gameplay or not. If you ignore the story, characters, enchanting and all that and focus entirely on the combat, will you enjoy this game? If yes, then get this. I highly recommend it. But if the combat sounds repetitive and boring to you, just ignore the game. 90% of the game is killing stuff and running around looking for stuff to kill. I personally love it, but it's not for everyone.

The demo made the monster density seem incredibly light, are you seeing any sign of this increasing as you play? I'm worried I'll get bored simply due to having to run from 3 slimes to the next 3 slimes.

Can you confirm how many combos there are in the game? or the movesets? additionally I was wondering if there is an option to turn off the in game voice battles, I used to find it cool how characters would call out their attacks, now its just downright annoying. And are the customization changes? if you equip different armor and weapons does your appearance change? Can you unlock additional costumes in game or is it DLC only? I heard this game also has all the characters from DQH1 but not playable in story? Is there a free mode without the space time level?

Didn't play the demo much (finished it once, then ignored it), but it's the usual amount of monsters so far. Some areas have more monsters than others, but I never have to walk far to find the next pile of monsters to beat up. The exception are some area where you need to backtrack a bit, and the monsters don't respawn quickly enough. This doesn't happen often, though.

As I said, it's only been a couple of hours, so I hardly know all there is to know. So as for the combos and how many characters there are, I don't know. Need to finish the game first. And as for the voices, sadly, no, I don't think you can switch them off. I don't find them annoying, though. The characters don't speak often during combat.

Costumes? So far I've only gotten one new for both MCs, and both costumes were a bonus for owning Dragon Quest Heroes 1. I also go a Mallet for owning Dragon Quest Builders. I'm sure there are more costumes to find, though. And no, your apperance don't change when you get new armor and weapon. In fact, the only "armor" you get are accessories. That said, it IS possible to change the apperance of your weapons. Desdemona runs around with a big axe, but I changed it to look like the mallet I got from DQ:B. It's cosmetic only, but at least it's some sort of visual customization. You can pick from a decent selection of skill etc, though, so you can customize how the party is set up quite a bit. Plus, it didn't take me long before I had more characters avaliable than room in my party, so you can swap out characters early on.

Free mode? Not quite sure what you mean, to be honest. So far I have only had a single mission with a time limit, and that was an optional quest I got from a quest giver in town. It was a 10 minute time limit, and I had to kill 15 of two types of monsters in the starting area. Took me two or three minutes, tops. Other than that, there was an escort mission in the story, so I guess that hass somewhat time limit. Beat the mission quickly, or the escort dies. Annoying mission, but got past it on my second try.

Good news is I tried the first special dungeon again, and while it says level 4, I found monsters my own level there. That means a lot of XP and loot without bothering with the story. And you can play it in co-op, if you can find someone else who plays it. Will be fun when the game is officially released. :-)

I wish the demo was on PC. I need to know how the combat feels like or what Warriors game it mimics the most. There is so much Warrior games coming out this year alone @_@

My issue with buying the game on Steam, is that I was under the impression that the Nintendo Switch is getting both DQH 1 and 2 bundled on one cart (whenever they release the western version).

So I was hoping to see the same deal here on Steam, and that is not the case.

http://www.siliconera.com/2017/03/08/battles-take-toll-switch-version-dragon-quest-heroes-iis-frame-rate/

"results showed that, while the Nintendo Switch plays the game fairly similarly to the PS4, Nintendo’s console struggled, with the frame rate falling in battles. In addition, playing the Switch in portable mode worsened the frame rate performance further."

Nintendo isn't the system to be getting multiplats on unless portability is the most important thing to you. Plus, by the time it gets released in the west you will likely have been able to get both DQH games for a similar price.

By the time the bundled ver. comes out on pc there will be sales where both game will amount to a bundle,so it doesnt make sense to make a bundle PC ver. when sales are so commonplace here.

I don't know about that with Dragon Quest Heroes though. The game hasn't gone on sale nearly as quickly as other games have, hence why I haven't bothered to buy it yet. It only went down to $20 on sale recently, and given the reaction people had for it, I still didn't grab it then.

But I'd be willing to buy them bundled easily for $60 or less. Which is what I was under the impression of happening on the Switch.

the lowest square will be discount their games is 50% within 2-3 years from release year, if you didnt pick it up at $20 then your probably not going to pick it up at all,$20 is the lowest youll see the game on sale here just look at discount history for there FF games it never goes below 50%

https://steamdb.info/app/39150/

edit: 3-4years you'll see it at 75% as sleeping dogs hit 75% discount with it's pricing
