Games For Windows Live (GFWL) and Batman Arkham CIty
Hi,

I've recently had a lot of problems with GWFL running in Arkham City. I've completely reinstalled my Windows 8 x64 and there is nothing on there other than the basic drivers, GFWL and Arkham City. This is what happened:

1. Ran Arkham City
2. GFWL ran successfully inside the game.
3. GFWL forced me to update the game using GFWL.
4. It re-ran the game after the update.
5. GFWL did not run in Arkham City.

I have restarted my machine and completely reinstalled the GFWL client in the correct process posted all over the internet. I can honestly see the only explanation for it not working is that the GFWL update has ruined my game!!

I guess what i'm looking for is:

Is there a way to disable these in-game GFWL updates?
Can I trick the game into thinking it has the update when it doesn't?
Has anyone had this problem? How have they solved it?

Edit: I know this isn't directly related to Steam, but this is a great community and I know a lot of people have been having similar issues.

Thank you guys :)

The problem is that the GFWL installed with the game won't work on Windows 8, even after it updates. You have to download the latest version from the Microsoft/X-Box/GFWL web site. Uninstall GFWL that the game installed, then install the new one.

Ah sorry I wasn't that clear to start. I have installed GFWL 3.5 which is the latest version, and it when I first run Arkham City, GFWL says it needs to update the game. It then updates the game and restarts it, and it's on that game restart that it doesn't work.

I've solved it. I reinstalled the game and declined the GFWL update. It's now saving the game to a local profile.

try completely deleting GFWL then reinstall it useing windoes 7 compatability mode (that means unistalling the games for windows live redistributalbe and games for windows live market place) hope this helped

It will run in Windows 8. It's an easy permission fix. Run the Games for Windows Live with administrative privlieges:

I had a similar problem. The game became stuck while playing, and I eventually restarted my computer. After restart I started Batman again, but GFWL was not started along with it.
I could not continue my savegame, because the saves are stored in GFWL I assume.
After some investigation I discovered ntfs faults in the Windows Event Viewer. I scheduled a chkdsk and restarted my computer. After the chkdsk I also updated my SSD firmware drivers.
Then I reinstalled GFWL (just in case) and verified the local game cache (this is a steam feature) for the game Batman (Batman is not installed on my SSD, but the save files might be).
After all that, the game started and loaded GFWL. After logging into GFWL my savegame returned and I could continue my game.

GFWL is boss if you update steam it will stop working...let GFWL control your Batman and you just play thru Steam...

I'm playing on Windows 8 no issues....

Also if you unplugged xbox controller it will also stop working...GFWL LIKE STRICT RULE !

It seems like this is a common problem. I've had that problem too. I still have that problem. The first time I installed the game it worked just fine, but after that it stopped working. Now should Batman appear on the Windows Live Marketplace, or both steam and WLM?

I can't comprehend the fact that they haven't come up with the idea to fix that ♥♥♥♥. I lost my savegame because I had to reinstall windows. I was quite far (just got the ice blast grenade).
First time I got it working by simply copying those 5 xboxlive files into the gamefolder. Now nothing seems to work and well, my savegame is gone for good anyway :/
