How is the coop campaign?
Is it fun or are they any major restrictions?

I have only played the Empire campaign co-op, had a few crashes but. if you enjoy the gameplay the co-op is enjoyable.

Edit: And for restrictions there isnt really anything significant, only host can upgrade fleets and start missions. Only one person can look at a fleet at a time and some other small things i might have missed but the actual battles there is none.

only the host can upgrade systems, pretty sure both players can move fleets and in battle both players can set ships to be controllable by either host, guest or both

Coop is stable now, but there are restrictions, Error pretty much listed all of them.

Have they fixed the lack of game speed controls in coop?

... You know I'd somehow managed to forget all about that. No they never did to the best of my knowledge, coop plays just like standard multiplayer matches in that regard.

Damn. I bought this game awhile back to do a coop campaign with my brother, but both of us very much prefer playing at lower speeds so we didn't really get anywhere with it. Stinks that they haven't changed it.

Is the campaign co-op strictly 2-player? Or do the fleets split more than that, if (say) 3 or 4 players want to co-op at once?

It's just 2 people in base game, but who knows maybe theres a mod for that

It's slightly buggy, but functional. Two players only, the remote player will have limited control on the campaign map, there are a few things they can't do for some reason which will irritate you. In battles both players will have the exact same control over the units of the participating fleets, although they can lock them to one player's control if they wish to avoid selecting units you don't want to.

There are no options to speed up or slow down the simspeed. Best have another monitor with some entertainment if you're waiting for units to travel.
