Report a translation problem
The second is to hex-edit the save file so that your admiral will have the combination of skills that you desire. This is a more direct solution, but I haven't tried it. If you do try this method, be sure to back up your files first.

Yea, pretty much that. Transfer the admiral to a dingy LC and have him run head first into the enemy.
The other upside to doing that is that you do still gain renown, especially if the enemy greatly outnumbers you, and you can see what ships you'll be facing (although with orks, it can be hard to tell on sight since they can bring a ludicrous number of line ships and most of them look pretty similar.)
