Anyone else is getting the immersion broken by the background art?
Like stated in the title, i am more or less close to the lore and i do know that some structures or even "ships" can have some stupid proportions at a certain point but...

The Blackstone fortress for instances are supposed to big huge, they are part of the biggest objects in the lore that is not a mega space station like 'port Maw" or even the Phalanx.

The background during the prologue when we ambush the Balckstone fortress while we have a titanic structure in the background dwarfing everything was pretty much breaking the immersion of the thing.
The battlebarge wasnt feeling like a neer 8km metal monster, more like a small gunship hiding in a dust cloud waiting to ambush another smaller craft in the shadow of a big space station.

Am i the only one feeling like this?

I agree the scale appears way off. One of the designers was probably used to those large images people use for desktop backgrounds.

After several hours of play hopefully our brains will get used to it.

I just try to ignore it. It's pretty background stuff, but they seemed to try to go for a Homeworld-style of massive megastructures looming in the background, when the massive megastructures in the lore are the things you're commanding.

You can help or help destroy an Eldar Craft world. (Ironically I chose to help the eldar but I got the achivement to destroy it....well done developers!)

This Craftworld, while also a 3D piece of background art is DWARFED by the utter moronic levels of immersion breaking backgrounds in even minor systems....that apparently have space stations larger than the planet itself....

Ok, you made a good point and gave a good example. Hopefully the devs will read and take the hint.

Yeah I have to agree. I'm kind of new when it comes to 40k lore but it really made me wonder why there is an imperial structure that is about the size of the planet yet for some reason has no guns for defense. Does look kind of cool I guess but it is sort of off-putting since the actual space stations are tiny compared to the background images.

Edit: The planet scale does feel about right though.

The background art is made to give you referencepoints in a 3D space and a better perception of depth, having just the grid on a classic space with stars BG would be worse, trust me I had this experience in other games too and selecting accurate points on the map was really difficult.

My biggest issue with the background 3D objects is when they're manmade structures. It throws everything out of whack and makes mankind's hugest vessel look like tiny blips, which just isn't right. Additionally, any structure as colossal as those background structures will have a level of detail equivalent to the ships themselves, because WITHOUT that, it doesn't make the structure look like it's actually meant to be that size, it looks like a model that was expanded to 1,000 times its actual render size.

Which is exactly what they did. So rather than look like an actually gigantic structure, it looks like a normal size structure that'd be 3-4 times bigger than a cruiser, just blown up to a ridiculous proportion.

Its a shame because some of those models are amazing and arent used in the main systems in each sector as the starbases/port.

Its worse when you consider the Necrons, a faction they gave a campaign mode to has only 5 ship models.

Yeah, it's odd when you the background structure looks like its thousands of miles across. It's fine if its a planet, but when its a random space station and your giant ships seem to be fighting surrounded by it, its off-putting

Not really. There are some utterly vast structures in the lore.

Earth has defensive stations that are described as continent sized, there are parts of lore that refer to the Imperium having planet-sized deep space stations.

Missing the point. Back up a few posts.

They don't LOOK like they're actually structures that are thousands of miles across, because they don't possess anywhere close to the level of fine detail you'd see on something like that. Instead, they look like 3D models that were modeled and textured at the size of a battleship and then blown up to 200 times their render size. It looks bad, that's why it's off putting. It might as well be a giant computer monitor or coffee mug floating there.

i think nearly everything is out of whack scale wise except perhaps the playable ships in comparison to each other, with a few exceptions: EG: the phalanx and black stone fortress was WAY to small, the space stations you get to plant as system defenses are also way to small, in fact i had less of an issue with the background objects sizes than this. In the Lore there are colossal sized structures [in relation to anything in the real world] anywhere there is a reasonable presence of imperium controlled planets, especially places like Cadia, Terra etc.

Differences like Blackstones, Hulks etc being too small are really a product of the game being 'abstract'. Like BFG on the TT, *technically* your ship is actually the spot at the base of the 'stick' and the 'unit circle' represents the nearest couple thousand kilometres to the ship.

Also there are naturally other issues, like the fact torpedo spreads.... well spread, where TT and lore they pretty much go straight lines then auto-home once they get within a couple thousand klicks. (Guided Torpedoes tracking from launch as opposed to at terminal range.)

that would make sense in that context. Also i really wish torpedos worked similar to that in the game. They should at least not spread like they do, because otherwise it makes them a fairly useless long range weapon, except for making an enemy not go that way. Or give them a 500-1000 metre homing range.
