Theory Question *spoilers for Chaos campaign!*
At the end of the Chaos campaign when Vrykan gets a seat at Abaddon's inner circle, he challenges Abbadon for the position of Warmaster. At this point it is unclear weather or not he has deamonicly ascended. However Vrykan has received considerable favor from the four Gods (assuming you completed all side missions), and has undoubtedly sacrificed and offered untold billions across the entire Aegis Ocularis to them.

This could be a bit difficult to analyze though because I do know that Vrykan is a non-cannon character created for this game, and we know nothing of his capabilities beyond commanding fleets. However I do feel that his offerings to/favor from the Gods could be a deciding factor.

So my theory question is, does anybody think that it is possible Malos Vrykan could defeat Abaddon in a duel, thus giving the forces of Chaos a new (and possibly more competent) Warmaster, or is Vrykan just in-over his head and would be crushed?

It's hard to say, since it's never very clear just how strong Abaddon's position is.
But Chaos is full of scheming backstabbers, and Abaddon has been head honcho for 13 Black Crusades. So he probably has a lot of experience putting down ambitious vassals.

So i'd give them both good odds, depending on how the Chaos gods feel that day.

From what I understand, Abbadon has pretty much full control of the Black Legion although large chunk of it may act on their own when he isn't around to tell them otherwise. While most of the other traitor legions will agree to work with him but don't really consider themselves to be truly serving under him. But do often see a benefit to aiding him if it means they can inflict more damage on the Imperium that the could have alone.

thing is the other legions dont like serving him
but they do
and what do you think can get traitor legions to follow orders
fear
the dude is powerful
primarch level powerful at this point
he has so much experience in terminator armor that he can move in it like normal powerarmor
he has a primarch weapon in one hand and a legendary deamon blade in the other and the blessing of all four gods eventho they know he wont serve just them
aswell as the patronage of the first deamon prince

GW writing has made the armless incompetence, but thats not abbadons fault its just the need to keep the story static
its how the endless waves of tyranids always seem to run out just as they are about to accomplish anything eventho they just ate several planets that should spawn entire new hivefleets
its GW not realizing the imperial plot armor is only non harmful to ork stories
if malos became the new warmaster he would spontaniusly lose his arms just like every treat to the imperium does
