how do you win with chaos?
losing every game I must be doing something wrong, getting out-shot by tau, getting rushed by astartes, ate by nids. facerolled by necrons. etc.

Well right now the best fleets are the lightning strike fleets. You have to take the right ship types first. Chaos has some very good and some very useless ships. I have played full lance fleet at first, but this is useless. Because lances do not enough damage. Chaos has good battleships which really do a lot of damage.

I would consider you to take some macro weapon ships too. Torpedo ships are weak when you are playing chaos so do not take them.

As chaos player stasis bomb helps you a lot. Furthermore consider this:

Maybe you are starting with chaos right now, so you do not have the level 10 skills. Most of the people who are playing against you have a level 10 fleet. So of course you will loose more often. Chaos gods specific traits are unlocked at level 10

Furthermore Chaos is countered hard by the current meta especially by Tyrainds and Space marines. Dark Eldar is not the biggest problem, because Chaos is ranged faction.

It is way easier to play space marines and Tyranids than Chaos. I have a level 10 Astartes fleet and i have to play twice as good when i am playing chaos than playing space marines.

Tyranids are braindead. Just rush into enemy fleet, use your moral destroying skill and board the enemy. Easy win.

thank you very much for the helpful reply!

Chaos is a kite/ranged combat focused faction with a solid selection of ships. My suggestion would be to avoid lances, while traditionally they were bread and butter tools, they were inadvertantly nurfed into the ground in terms of damage due to the armor and hull point total changes. (Short version is that instead of negating lots of armor, they negate 1/3 as much as in the first game. Also their damage is unchanged but hullpoints doubled globally. With armor being DR instead of % to negate a hit, this really impacted them.)

Fortunately, Chaos packs some classical 30k Imperial Army (yes, army, Navy/Guard was one service back then!) macro cannon ships. Those combined with some escorts for spotting and target lock/run silent should see you through to victory at long range. Also consider bringing some strike craft, both for intercepting bombers/boarding craft and for long range strikes of your own. The Imperial Army had a lot more focus on that than the Imperial Navy does and it shows.

You've got solid speed and all the basic manuvers to work with via combustion gague, so even Reload stance can be suprisingly useful. Brace is Brace, you know how to use it.

I'm no fan of the Dark Gods but the older Imperial ship doctrine appeals to me.:raven:

Lance spam with disruption bombs and augur probe. But if you are loosing to worst faction (SM) maybe something wrong with you, I dunno.

I am currently ranked 87th with Chaos.

I play brawler Chaos with 1x Battleship Despoiler, 2x Grandcruiser Repulsive, 1x Cruiser Carnage and 1x Cruiser Slaughter. Plasma bomb + Disruption bomb, and warp powered + daemonic infestation. Super-void charged shield synergises with warp-powered, but in general I found that dropping the bombs was more effective. All of these are available from level 1.

I swapped daemonic infestation for armour piercing ammunition when it became available. I currently am only level 9 so do not have the level 10 traits open to me.

You get up close, brace for impact and ram everything. Board them if you aren't against Tyranids/Spacemarines, if you are save your lightning strike to re-populate any ship they turn into a drifting hulk. You have a lot of macro-cannons so will tear a lot of enemies apart up close. You want to be right in the middle of them so that your warp-powered ability will damage the morale of as many enemy ships as possible. Always make priority 1 the enemy commandship. I have beaten over 15 tyranid fleets up close with this, the only one I lost to had the level 10 Tyranid ability which makes their fleet essentially immune to morale. You will often take losses but thanks to daemonic infestation even that can work in your favour. This fleet excels at dishing out damage and abusing their morale. Chaos is scary!

I use the Slaughter (240 movement) as my group-2 capping ship, which forms up with the rest of the fleet if it looks like the enemy will face me head on. I keep the other 4 ships together in group 1 and they will capture one victory point as they approach the enemy. You want to target the decks against everything except the eldar factions and kite-y chaos, for those you destroy the engines, and for space marines you target generators. Fighters from the Despoiler are great for keeping carrier fleets from destroying you at distance, and if the enemy are sending fighters to destroy your turrets use the torpedoes on the Repulsives to give them an alternate target that serves as a distraction; once you get up close you can destroy them. Fighters should also be used as scouts against stealth factions.

Have fun.

thats why he came here you judgemental prick. And SM arent trash as much as Corsairs.

Do not focus on lances with Chaos in this game. As it was said macro-cannons are much better now with carrier ships for support. Despoiler while seemingly a carrier ship is actualy deceptive in that as it bears so many different guns that it's dps is better than Desolator by far.
I just remember a game where my Acheron and 2 Hellbringers Mk2 were kiting and shooting lances at a single necron Cairn for a whole game. And it was only down to 2/3 of hull points at the end of the match.

Not worst, just extremely specialized. I mean, with the right skills and such you can break the enemy flagship almost straight away... cept Tyrandies

Judging by the win rates not only SMs are not the worst, but they are the 3rd best faction in the game right now so there's that.

As for lances, I didn't have much success with them either, there are 2 specific matchups in which they matter, SMs and necrons, anything else makes them feel quite useless.

I've had some success with carnage and slaughter spam, apparently slaughter has 2 lances on each side that the tooltips do not show, but you can see them in the ship viewer so their DPS is a little higher than carnage, their speed is also higher so if you intend to get close they are better at it, but the carnage has massive range, sure it misses most of the shots at that range, but it's better than not being able to shoot at all, give it a try.

Against tau and heavy ranged factions try surprisng them, brace for impact and ram with everything, it's quite hilarious to see a tau flagship being rammed by 6 cruisers at the same time and being deleted, then aim for their decks and the entire fleet should flee in no time. Warp powered works well if you're going to do this shenanigans.

One big issue with chaos seems to be the fact that before lvl 9 and 10 most of the skills are nearly useless.

Im rank 3 chaos, and I run something similiar to this, It does have trouble vs AP round ramming IN so I usually 9k macro them, I also wouldn't get close to nids and kite them with lock on 12k using escorts to out cap them.

Everything else you can rush them. DE can give me trouble something they just out tank me somehow?? even though im at 3k broadside range

Ooh I didn't know you could search rank by faction, I meant I was 87th overall. As of right now you are actually rank 2 Chaos, and I'm rank 5. Go us, ha.
