space combat... followed up by planetary invasions and ground battles.... why on earth this hasn't been done I have no idea... hell i'd be ok with paying 120$ for it even if battlefleet gothic 2 was the space battles and something like dow 1 was the groundbattles...... it would be so damn good.

I remember well that game,and it's expansion.
It was glorious,and too bad that such kind of format didn't have any following games.
Still nowadays after more than a decade is enjoyable,and the community did also a great job with some mechanical and graphical mods.
If only GW could hear us.

I agree. I also wish they would do a proper Horus Heresy game already. That format (Empire At War) would be perfect for it too. Just the idea of being able to lay seige to, and possibly storm the Imperial Palace on Holy Terra as Horus Lupercal's forces.

I remember hearing about that at some point, but knowing Games Workshop, the company that (attempted to) sued a sci-fi author just for using the term "Space Marine", I wouldn't be surprised if they got shut down via a C&D order.

The ground battles in empire at war definitely lacked substance and the space battles were definitely the highlight, however I agree. If they could somehow merge battle fleet gothic and dawn of war 1 together with some sort of planetary capture campaign map, I think the nerdgasms from WH40k fans would be heard world wide.

I know it has divisions,but personally I prefer DoW 2 because of the deeper sense of progressing the units,but both titles are good in my opinion.
When GW will realize that even 40k fans need their "Total War alike" game then we will all be happier.

That's not how ground invasion work in the 40k universe though.
Like, you can get void dominace is a relatively small timeframe, but ground campains can last decade.

No offense but in Empire at War I was always dragging Death Star with me b/c imho ground battles were quite bad in that game... But if it was something like DoW 1 or even 2 that would be OK.
