Online connection needed to fight AI in Skirmish
So when I bought this game I saw the part of the Store Page saying

'Additional Notes: INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIRED FOR THE ONLINE GAME'

I was fine with this as I don't play online and was getting it for story mode and fighting the AI like the first game. However upon starting the game with steam in Offline mode and attempting to pick my fleet for a match against the AI I was kicked back to the main menu and couldn't access the game mode as I was simply kicked back again.
Had I known this before hand I wouldn't have pre-ordered it or at least refunded the game however it isn't displayed on the store page anywhere so I had no way of knowing.
I feel this should have been listed on the Store Page or at least somewhere in the game itself. Making it impossible to level up fighting the AI is bad enough without also needing to have my Steam Online for no reason (at least that I can see) and I am disappointed to find this was simply skipped over and never stated.

Provided this is something that gets changed post launch, that's just another reason for me to not buy this. Loved the first game, but I'm hearing complaints from all corners at this point.

you dont have internet? practically every modern game uses cloud saves. go buy a cd-rom game and stop whining. you can always refund a pre-order even if you exceded 2 hours. im pretty sure they arent going to go back and re-code their game to 1986 standards just to stop your squeaking.

That's a pretty obnoxious comment. Most games only require an online connection for the online portion of the game ie: story/extra modes that are purely single player don't need a connection and so would not be required.

I had no idea this was trying to be an MMO lite like diablo 3, and needed a persistant connection to play any mode. This should rightfully be made more clear on the product page or it really is falsely being advertised.

I myself always have an internet connection so i have no horse in this race, but I understand because i can empathize with people that not everybody's living/internet connditions are optimal.

And saying they have to recode they're game to 1986 levels is truly stupid. The only possible reason they would require an internet connection is to gather some form of data and save it back to they're servers.

So why does the game need a connection to the internet for singleplayer content? I really would like to know and if anybody know's i really would like to know what kind of data they are collecting.

Remember when a guy told a fanbase "What, you guys don't have cell phones?"

Stupid tard.

I think you have to be online to play it right now because it is in beta. Once the game releases you should be able to play the game offline. I could be wrong though.

Most likely scenario.

Would like to say some places you can play a game aka bus or on the road without internet so thats a big draw for people. Developers all over ♥♥♥♥ the bed on this one though all the time.

When I clicked Battle for the first time, on the bottom right of the load screen it said "loading_multiplayer". Battle as it stands is a multiplayer system hence the need for an internet connection.
The mode you are looking for I believe was Skirmish, a mode you could play offline by yourself or with a friend co-op against AI and skill up. Though it says the mode is availble in the beta, it is not at the main menu and currently absent. Perhaps it will be added later in beta or at launch.
In the mean time, I'm not sure why you are selecting to turn steam offline but you can also appear offline and retain all the functions of being online allowing you to play vs AI.

It is literally directly across from ranked 1v1 and 2v2.

It is literally in the game right now. Go get your eyes checked.

"Don't you have phones?"

The only reason for always-online is the paranoid obsession with the scene. Meanwhile GOG is thriving with no DRM at all.

Even games like Dark Souls, which live from online interactions have offline modes. It's called player choice. You might have forgotten what it actually means, since in the past years it's mostly used for microtransactions.

Actually you can play the game offline just fine.

The problem you are having is that you are not....

While you put Steam in Offline mode, Easy Anti Cheat will still try to go online.
I got a idea that the game don't only use EAC as anti cheat but also as a extra layer of trash DRM.

Because guess what happens when EAC thinks somthings wrong... Yeah you get kicked back to Main menu.

But, if you really are offline, or disable your internet connection, the game works just fine.
