How to defeat tyranid Ancient One?
I'm in the Imperial campaign and I got the mission to destroy the tyranid titan, but that thing is crazy powerful and has 8k hp+morale killing screams.

how can you take it out?

Board it to death with SM's... You just have spire run decoy while you boarding torp, lightning strike and honour the chapter it run away retreat call in fresh SM crusiers and repeat specifically the MKII's the ones with boarding torps. basically you have to cheese kill it because it's balance is off.

It's health is way too high, have three fleets. Spire fleet bit filled with battleships and set them at 18 meters. Then two space marine fleets of strike cruiser, set them at 4.5. Give spire a ship that can do mirco jump so he can kit the big beast. Then use the space marines. They are immune to the scream, so don't worry about it being close. You then use chapter drop and pods. Lightning strike doesn't do enough damage for me. You can either use them until they epxplode, or give them two runs and then retreat them. Your new ones will come in and you contuine the process.

Yeah I've beaten it with mass boardings, thanks!

I just warp disganaged all IN ships so all my SM cruisers could enter the fight.

I didn't even see the reinforcements... is it even possible to do this without boarding?

"SM Captain: Alright everyone...has anyone here seen Osmosis Jones/Cells at Work?"

Im playing the necron campaign and i cant kill this thing with boarding, because I dont have any space marine like boarding skills. Any other suggestions to get this thing down?

Figure out which ship the AI is going after - kite with that ship while every else takes potshots.

It will take awhile.

Kinda tried that but i takes to long to kill the ancient so the endless coming tyranids kill my ships faster then i can kill the ancient one.

8k HP is just too much, i get boarded like hell all the time by the nids, which disables critical spots and then my ships start dying. I never lost any ship because it was shot down in this mission. I always get overwhelmed by boarding or morale loss when teleport fails (do to critical damages mentioned earlier).

I cheesed it by abusing how the AI prioritizes stealthed ships.
If every ship is stealthed the AI targets the closest one, if there's only one visible it will target that one.

Basically you have at least two ships in two different locations in a gas cloud/stealth stance and unstealth the one that's farthest away from the ancient one (and switch to full ahead for a short time; the ship needs to be identified).
Once the enemy is closer to the unstealthed ship, stealth it again, wait until the enemy is close to detecting you (the 4500 range) then unstealth the other ship in the other location. Rinse and repeat.

It took me quite a while and several tries but in the end it worked.

This is a realy good idear! The incoming tyranids are still anoying but the mission seems quite possible with this strategy.

After reading this thread and the same one on reddit i felt better as it seems i wasn't the only one to abuse AI and mechanics in this battle. Though i didn't use the board it to death tactic but rather kite it with Admiral until it dies tactic. Still , in my case it was a bloody victory ... every white scar astartes to help died ( also , the SM chapter is random in this mission) and i lost 50% of my entire navy.

From what I see it's almost impossible with necrons, for some reason many story missions in the campaign are HEAVILY tilted against you, it's like they were designed with a much larger fleet in mind.
PhoenixFury Jan 29, 2019 @ 2:33pm
I just spammed torpedoes at it, using Dauntless-II's running around as decoys. It was hard, but I don't really understand the complaints, it was definately winnable. You just have to stay outside psychic scream range and have enough ships that enemy boarding doesn't wreck your fleet. Too many battleships is bad for that.
Ludatan Jan 29, 2019 @ 2:37pm
I tried as necrons and failed. Necron ships dont have run silent on their bigger ships and all of them have instead of full ahead this teleport. As soon as some of the random spawning tyranid ships get to close to my cloaked ships in an asteroid field or nebula its game over, because im then detected by them through close range and cant get them to go away.
Ludatan Jan 29, 2019 @ 2:39pm
Also the tyranid boarding is for necrons a huge problem, because i just get boarded to death almost immedeatly and i cant board the ancient one with enough troops (because necrons and ancient one has to much troops for them). Necrons also cant use any kinds of torpedos. Please help!
