Nova Cannons
Hi, sorry for the noob question but do you only get a limited amount of Nova Cannon shots? And is this also the same for the bombers? I ask as on my mechanicus skirmishes I seem to run out and dont understand shy. Thanks Dean

You get 3x Nova Cannon shots, once used they're gone.

With bombers (and fighters, and what-ever the boarding spacecraft is called) you get 3 squadrons of them which each have their own separate health bar; if they are killed then you lose that squadron permanently, but if it survives then when they return you will get the squadron back. Generally you want to destroy the enemy's turrets with your fighters; when they have no turrets, and no fighters of their own, your bombers will be free to bomb them without having to worry about getting shot down which allows you infinite uses (you just have to wait for the 40-60% cooldown).

Torpedoes are 3 shot limit as well which is a major pain as they were my favourite weapon of the first game, lining up ships and getting the timing right to get off the perfect spread.

You can see the shots remaining represented by little green segemented bars under the skill in question.

Thank you for the helpful replies much appreciated! Im surprised torpedoes are also limited!

It sounds limiting but you have to factor a few things - battles are pretty quick and I've had ships get trashed before they used up their abilities.

Some ships get a lot of different weapons so while they are limited in all you get a lot - Astartes Vanguard strike cruisers get torpedoes, boarding torpedoes, fighters, bombers and assault boats, with 3 uses of each. So all that can last a while since many weapons are on shared cooldowns.

With nova cannon, it has a big minimum range and once smart opponents get inside it they won't let you line up another shot. It's actually prudent to mag dump your nova charges before enemies get too close or knock out your generator.

Seems stupid to limit torpedoes as much, there is a cobra escort that only has torpedoes so its worthless after 3 shots.
you want eldar shotgunning you with infinite torpedo's dandy? :-p

The widowmakers main asset is the 13,500 identification range. The torpedoes are like an extra perk.

For Imperial Navy, they get 3 uses of regular torpedoes and 3 uses of melta torpedoes. So six Salvos in all. Escorts seldom last long enough to use them all up, and if they did (and hopefully connected with some) then they have paid for themselves in the damage output.

The only races that don't get 'special' variants aren't torpedo specialists and fewer of their ships have torpedo armament.
