None or a big impeller. They scale better without anything in between.

Water jets are pumps by their construction themselves

So i just need more power?

You need as many revs as you can get, they also scale with input pressure but no amount of pumps can compare to the input pressure you get from decent speed.

If you are using electric motors and not planning to get over 60m/s you can use raw connection to motor(s), jets are operating up to 20rps up to those speeds.

Is it worth hooking up normal engines or will electric be the same?

As you prefer. Usually for water-operating vehicles people prefer diesel-electrics systems, coz they are better in fuel efficiency and easy to operate. If you dont care about it or need to be light as possible you usually using straight connection.

Use jet with spoiler In place of a motor for maximum property damage.
