Anyway to fix slow motion? I have a laptop
I do have a laptop, but it can easily run other games, for example, Gmod.
Incase this helps, It's a Lenovo ideapad 1i, but everywhere I look it's just a laptop

What? Your rig can run a game from 2006 perfectly but struggles with one that strains even current mid range gaming pcs? I’m shocked. Shocked I say!

Stormworks doesn’t play well with integrated graphics cards, particularly those on lower end laptops. You can try reducing your graphics and physics settings and closing any background applications, but the only fix for your situation really is a system upgrade.

basically the only option you have is a system upgrade or just lower every graphics thing in game but that probably wont help that much

Yea, I know it's an old game but I can download a ton of mods and make it look as realistic as possible and it doesn't lag, so shut up.
And I've done that and it does nothing. In my defense I've heard of people on top end computers still have the same problem I do on a laptop

Yeah so it is what it is.
Disable all addons, set view distance and physics settings down.

Disable all add-ons when starting a new world, as well as go in to settings and disable wildlife and lower view distance to minimum. Also lower tree detail and disable ocean graphics effects.

I looked up your laptop specs, and I've run stormworks on much much worse hardware, I'm talking 2nd gen Intel processors and Radeon hd graphics cards. Make sure you have your laptop plugged in and the power mode set to performance. Another thing to note is that with the introduction of performance and efficiency cores on modern Intel processors, I believe you can go in task manager and set stormworks to prefer performance cores.
thatcoolcat1 Sep 29, 2024 @ 11:55pm
You can also hit f1 in-game to bring up performance info, and it will show you the frame rate of different aspects of the game. If your physics fps is below 60 and your in-game frame rate is high, then it's a CPU bottleneck of some sort. If both the graphics and physics frame rate are the same and below 60, then you are GPU bottlenecked.

Thanks, I'll have to try those sometime. By far the most helpful thing I've seen for dealing with this.
Mud Dauber Sep 30, 2024 @ 4:02pm
Also, how do I set stormworks to prefer performance cores? And how do I fix it if its either bottleneck? Or if thats just an "I think" and the bottleneck is just something to know.

1. Post your computer specs.
2. Don't spawn big or super complex creations (many moving parts, many monitors, many script and Lua, many modded parts, aduse of exploits especially physics exploits). A rule of thump is the nicer it looks and the more fancy features it has the less it's suitable for multiplayer or weak computers. And you realize this when you get slowmotion.
3. Get a real gaming computer.
4. No posting it's a Lenovo IdeaPad is no information at all as it does not tell anything about the specs. There are many different versions of it out there.

No!
1. He wants help so it's his task to provide the needed information.
2. There is more than just one hardware setup with this name.
3. We'll all of them are potato and not suitable for this game.

the lowest spec for the ideapad 1i is above the minimum specifications to play the game. also as i said earlier, i have experience running the game on terrible hardware.

no matter how much i think this game is terrible and poorly optimized, this is definitely a configuration issue.

No it's not. And even the bare minimum are not good for really playing that game. That is why he has the issues and only because of this.
And this is the problem with each and every wannaby gaming kid on this forum who experiences this showmotion.
And no you can NOT "optimize" every game so it can be run on mummys old laptop.

To add to this: the physics for Stormworks is single core. The base single core speed of the current Lenovo Ideapad 1i is 1.1 GHz, which is why OP is seeing slow motion when running the game. Everything is bottlenecking at the CPU.

OP, if you want to see this for yourself, open Stormworks and spawn something that is causing slowmo. Now, open up your Task Manager, select the Performance tab, and look at your CPU utilization. It will be 100%. Simply, your CPU is struggling to process the information it is being given by Stormworks at a speed needed to operate at full speed.
