Whats the point of capturing bases?
Wouldn't have been hard to implement some simple mechanics like getting a certain amount of cash/research points for each captured base per hour. That alone would give a reason to actually capture them.
Or, replace buying the bases with capturing them.
There's no point to vanilla conquest mode, apparently you're supposed to do regular missions / containers for cash and research points while at the same time having to combat hostiles.
I can recommend to ditch the vanilla conquest mode and use this gem instead:
