Direction doesn't matter. The poster indicates it's attached to a winch. To me it sounds like an issue with transitioning the open/close connection line across since the plane and the object the winch is attached to are considered seperate bodies. You can't just drag a line directly to objects on the separate body anymore. You need to use the connections in an anchor to do that now.
Nice tip, I didn't know about that thing with the connectors. You are right, fluid valve orientation doesn't matter.
