If you just want one for mostly visual reason, which you could have specified, then just attach it to a winch.
So use those.
Fair, though last time i used one it sucked up a pair of medium batteries dry in under 2 minutes. Maybe they fixed those since that, but i found it a bit prohibitive then.
..a single magall? Yeah i haven't had that problem on my boat, it has a single large battery and i've never seen the power go below .94. Powered by two 30RPS large engines with two small generators, so i'm not exactly getting huge power gen - this is recently (last two weeks)
Yep, a single one. Though the hinge mags were even worse, for some reason. Made having a neat hinge mag to store the boat neatly on dock more than a little bit prohibitive.
These weren't generator boats i had them in, just "normal" diesel driven small to medium boats with an alternator tuned only really to supply floodlights.
This was around the version 0.6 admittedly, but they left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth back then, so i haven't been using them since. My mind works in weird ways.
You need the anchor to pull across the surface and thus dig in and hold. This is done by using a long line (ie, 6:1 or higher ratio for length to depth). It's even more effective if using a heavy chain.
The boat often won't be pulling the line tight, but remains in a "relaxed" state as the weight of the line pulls downwards into a gentle curve.
The only way to do this in game would be to use a mag all or some form of high friction block with good weight, use the current rope connectors to join to a heavy weight, then use the winch to lift that weight as required.
This length to depth ratio is why deep water vessels (like the research vessels that explored the titanic) don't use anchors, but GPS positioning systems to steer and power the vessel over a set position.
After all, who wants to carry a 6-10 km anchor line (to maintain a set position, you'd actually need three of them minimum).
