Natural oil spills?
Do they occur naturally?

Does any crash with fuel leak oil? All ships use some form

Is there a way to test the system. Without waiting etc? I can’t afford to drill atm and wondering if there is a spawner for it. Like closed container fluid spawner or mission

Lastly. Does it impact sea-water cooling loops even if it is a surface film?

Well I haven't attempted anything yet with this update didn't get a chance but I can help you for your spawner question. :) I had answered a previous post asking for oil spawner.

You can manually edit your vehicle save to swap the fluids.

To easily find your desired spawner in the code set it to like 95% then save your vehicle

Go to your vehicle save folder. %AppData%\Stormworks\data\vehicles.

Open the the .xml of the vehicle you just saved in notepad or other text app.

Use the find function Ctrl-F and search for fluid_fill and make sure match case at bottom left is checked.

You will see something similar to this one. I had set mine to 92.

<c d="water_spawner"><o r="0,0,-1,0,-1,0,-1,0,0" sc="5" fluid_type="0" fluid_filter="4294967295" fluid_fill="0.92">

Change the fluid_type="#" to the desired type.

0: Fresh Water
1: Diesel Fuel
2: Jet Fuel

5: Oil
6: Sea Water
7: Steam
8: Slurry
9: Saturated Slurry

Save go back in game go in editor click the load folder select your ship load it and spawn it should have the desired fluid in it.

If you edit the spawner in the editor and save it will reset the fluid_type to 0. So you will have to change it again manually if you do.

So guys, what if we just kept spilling oil and cleaning it up? maybe even set up an automated system to do it.

first of all, why would there be an oil spill if it wasnt caused by humans, and secondly it would be cool for ai to sometime act recklessly and spill oil

Naturally in this context means a random mission spawn rather then a player-driven action causing a response

Well then the answer to that one is yes.

From the news:

Ocean Oil Spills

The new oil spills system leaves a thick layer of oil on the ocean surface. This system is linked into Stormworks fluid system, so any oil that leaks from a vehicle will pollute the environment, and to clean up, the ocean must be pumped and filtered using the new oil-water separators.

These oil slicks will spread with ocean currents over time, as well as slowly diffuse outwards across the surface of the ocean.

Oil Disaster Missions

New missions introduce oil disasters to career mode. If not repaired quickly, damaged oil pipelines, or ships, can begin to leak oil, spilling huge quantities of oil into the ocean and creating huge environmental clean-up tasks.

The oil pollution runs on it's own mission system, similar to the forest fire system. Any oil spills will create new pollution clean-up tasks.

Oil spill missions dont spawn, i dont know if that was MEANT to be ingame, but it wasnt. i have tried to spawn them but it only works when YOU spill actual oil, also oil is the only liquid that can spill, so other than oil tankers and rigs, its very rare for an oil spill to actually happen

Will you start taking damage upon swimming into an oil spill?

*pretty much a 30 page essay*

How do I crash a vehicle?

I will be posting an oil spill starter, tho it is expensive on diesel and jet fuel.

Well the thing is that with most ships it might not work since most people build bulkheads/ double hulls.

Your custom tank would need to be part of your hull in order to start leaking on crash impact.

It’s designed to be containerized.
Operation steps will be posted
