What are catalytic converters for?
i have yet to see a pollution or global warming mechanic (lol), so what are they for?

Well they are for reducing exhaust particles.

And before they got fixed it was possible to use them to convert exhaust back to air but like I say that's been fixed.

Why would you ever need to reduce exhaust particles though?

Because a lot of people were whinning about the smoke lmao.

so when your driving your car, you dont see ugly grey smoke pumping out the exhaust

me who plays with no particles:
also WHO CARES??????

I do... The smoke gets annoying real quick.

why so hard on the "who cares"?
some people dont like driving on the train tracks with their friends getting their head blasted by exhaust particles

"I hear you theres a large amount of this precious material in geodes called "catalytic converters" that seem to form in cars" - Dushman 2023
just feed the exhaust into an air intake without it connected to a cylinder, it gets rid of exhaust smoke with no power losses, while also having particles on..

Nothing got fixed, unless I'm missing something.

The cat converters can still convert exhaust to air at a 1:1 ratio (just tested it, didn't launch the game for almost 2 months now, go figure).

This allows you to generate infinite air for firebox/diesel furnace to run in enclosed spaces, as well as producing excess air for diesel engines (since they consume less air than producing exhaust, so you still need to get rid of the excess air in a closed loop regarding submarines etc.).

"Working as intended" according to the devs.
Seeing how they also added the electric furnace, allowing for infinite energy generation it seems they've either finally given up "balancing" the game or just don't care anymore.

A pity, after nerfing motors/generators to hell and back.

You "missed" the underwater-test.
What you are describing worked fine, even under water.
Now, all this does not work anymore (catalytic-converter stops to let smoke go through it), when i.e. 60 meters under water.
I tested this with my diesel-sub some time ago. The exhaust value went to 0 when checking the modular-engine info. When the catalytic-converter has been removed, all is fine again, the engine works underwater using prefab-air-filled tanks.

If using the same sub at/above water-level, the cat works as you described.

In very old versions of SW, this workd underwater fine. There are some threads around, talking about this.

Interesting. Could be the same "fix" that broke the fluid nozzles, which also no longer work below 50-60m depth, even when in a sealed room.

The game gets more bonkers with each "fix".

Thanks for the hint. So I threw my plan for a sub-sprinkler out of the window, lol.
IMO the main problem with their "fixes" is, that many of them are not documented within their change-logs.

Infinity gens possibility existed before the release of those furnaces.

I have two versions posted here in a few posts.

A jet one and I recently posted a steamless turbine generator that does 13k absolute free energy. I have a better version I made 1 turbine and I get 30k absolute free power.

Thing is the furnaces just add 21st century technology to the mix.

We have industrial electric water heaters and gas water heaters.

I have a gas water heater and it's exhaust goes outside but it's air intake is right there in my closet. I turn my hot water tap on it activates the system and within a minute I have infinite 135F hot water.

Yeah me too kid, me too. According to "The Sciunts" the polar ice caps should have melted, acid rain should have killed us all and coastlines should be changing to reflect massive flooding, yet century old piers and lighthouses remain in place and millionaires keep buying beach houses...

OH you mean in the game? Yeah I like the idea of fantasy elements too.
