Question related to this: I have a laptop, Mac (yes ik...), late 2015 with 8 GB RAM (shouldn't be an issue, RAM management is the one advantage of Mac), a 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5 (pushing it, not sure) processor, but only Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1.5GB GPU (which afaik doesn't meet the minimum requirements). I'm ok with capping the FPS and/or reducing settings; can I just do that or will it be completely unplayable/incompatible? Thanks in advance

Without actually testing it myself, it is hard to say.

The game is only 32-bit, so it can only use 4GB of memory anyways.

Your CPU is pushing it, but it should be able to run the game and handle small (maybe medium) sized creations. Anything larger than a large-ish plane or medium-ish boat is probably out of reach.

You could probably at the very least be in a playable state at minimum settings. You might have to lower your screen resolution, since I know Macs tend to have pretty high display resolutions (above 1080p). Gaming above 1080p (even at 1080p, in most cases) is pretty much out of reach without a discrete GPU.

But I think what will kill you is overheating. You might end up having a big issue with overheating. While your system will not damage itself, it will 'thermal throttle,' which basically means it will slow itself down to reduce its heat output. This directly translates to reduced performance in a game. I suspect this is likely to happen. The game might be playable if it uses all of your system at 100%, but laptops (Macs being slim, especially), tend to have very poor cooling capabilities. Running a system at 100% for an extended period of time generates a lot of heat, and even larger gaming laptops can struggle to handle the heat output.

There is certainly no harm in trying, though. Give the game a buy, subscribe to a few workshop vehicles of various sizes, and try to play a little bit. See how it runs. If it is poor, as I suspect it will be, you can refund it no-questions-asked thanks to Steams 2-hour-playtime refund policy. Do note that boats spawned at the 'creative dock' have a weird physics bug that causes the game to slow down drastically. Try spawning them somewhere else, like the multiplayer island, instead for a more representative sample. You can also try driving them away from land, as sim speed tends to increase away from land.

EDIT: I thought it might be worth adding this. If you really want to try to play this game, you might consider buying an external cooling pad. There are lots of cooling pads out there designed for gaming laptops. It is just a flat surface with a bunch of fans in it that blows air on the bottom of your laptop as it rests on it. It can actually make a difference, and, since they are just fans, are usually pretty affordable. They can be loud, though, so you might want to use headphones. If you want to try to game with that laptop, it might be worth considering.

Thank you! I'll give it a shot, and I'll have to look into a cooling pad.

Will the Acer Nitro 5 Be Any Better? It's $100 Cheaper! I Have Heard On the Form that Intel Works Better For Stormworks.

The Ryzen one I wouldn't recommend but you probably will be ok with the last one that has Intel i5. Intel CPUs mostly has better single-core performance and clock speed (if compare by gens), which is matter for physics here.

If you are able to wait couple of months for more Ryzen 4000 SKUs and more diverse laptop models, i would wait for that (more perf, more cores, better efficiency).
With that, GTX1650 is just about enough to beat the Vega iGPU in those so you'd be better spending a bit more for increased GPU perf for other games.

I would not recommend 3000 Ryzen series over Intel in current gen mobile market as Intel have 6-core i7s which will be better overall.
