Breakable blocks
I think it would be great if the developers would make it that if a block receives damage after current max damage it breaks/gets deleted to make battles and crashes more realistic.

Unfortunately that just isn't feasible in Stormworks.

You would have to redo the entire compartment system used for bouyancy, and probably break every boat ever made

Well they could do it like the pre-update gearboxes and not affect older vehicles

I will, but it would be cool to have breakable blocks even as a optional setting like the tutorial
slapworthjr Sep 2, 2022 @ 4:52am
they would still need to redo the buoyancy system though

This is impossible just accept technical facts.

I mean theres probably a way with like ghost block where they flood a lot and you can go through them but still count as blocks, but parts still couldn't actually fall off.

It would also take a ton of work.

this looks like a great idea, and looks like the better way to go in the case of stormworks.
I didn't see how the buoyancy system would need to be changed because once a block is broken it already let the water in, so would be more a matter of just ghosting the block and letting things pass by it. The way to recover the block could with the welder tool, but only if it is adjacent to an intact or visible block.

Yes, but parts could only disappear, not actually fall off.

And there is still the issue of blocks not actually being individual blocks outside of the vehicle editor. They are combined into larger polygons. Large vessels would suddenly have gaping holes from seemingly minor damage.

If I've learnt anything about this game its that the direction of development will never be towards realism. The engine and general strength of the average PC just isnt up to real time fully destructible physics sandboxes on the scale of SW yet. Give it a few more steps toward the singularity and we'll get a real time, ray traced AI driven physics builder set on a 1:1 ratio planet Earth map with Google map Data. We're not getting much more than more of the same level of plaything from SW though.

i agree great great game but theres something missing when you see a plane take a nose dive at 300mph and its gets a few scratches and destroys logic..
if they did it would make this game shine much more over the other build it games.
Still.....its a great fn game

LOL not towards realism???
come on the amount of work you put into an engine and im not even talking modulars. proper air intake fuel exhaust configurin so yuo dont blow the engine up. yep fake as hell? lol
