Small Engine won't turn over. Tried what feels like everything.
So I got the game not so long ago and tried it out and thought I will make my first boat. I went off to YouTube in search of some answers on how to do this. I followed one, didn't work. Followed another, didn't work. This goes on for some time, I have watched tutorials and playthroughs of this game trying to work out what I have done wrong and I can't work it out, feels like my IQ has dropped a decimal place or something. The boat is very much not done, I haven't sorted out the weight, shaping, interior and so on, I just wanted to try and get this engine sorted.

I have checked what feels like everything(pipes, connections, power ect) though clearly that is not the case otherwise it would be working. I have built another engine in creative on a small block, not even a boat as such. I turned on infinite fuel and battery, of which it has resulted in the same outcome of it not turning over. I have tried studying other people's boats as well to understand but they often are the high end boats with all the extras so working out how that works and such wasn't going to help me. I have tried adding spaced between pipes hence why some are sticking through the floor (I know some are meant to come out of the boat) but that hasn't worked.

I mean, for all I know it is just a bug and what I have set up is just fine, so with all that it is why I seek out help to my reluctance as I was determined to fix it myself. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated.

I uploaded it as this should be easier than going back and forth with text on trying to work out what has been done or not.

It starts fine, maybe you didn't give it some throttle input? :D

How strange, I had tested it with a starting 0 on the throttle then 0.20, 0.60, 0.80 and 1.00.

Last time I had an engine that wouldn't start no matter what, it took me over an hour to realise I'd put jet fuel in the tanks instead of diesel. :D

Oh right, well yeah that would do it. Well at least you worked it out which is good. Say how did you drive it? Like for me when I started the key, it turns and stays on but just doesn't turn over and keeps going till the noise comes to a very slow deep toned stop. Is the way of which I am attempting to drive it to blame rather than the construction?

Well it only has one small engine for two props and a generator for a fairly big small boat, and you have the gearing set to 3:1. It's woefully under powered for that kind of ratio. Try setting it to 1:1.

Edit. Also once the engine is running you need to turn the key off as it's running the starter motor until the battery dies.

Oh okay, well that makes sense, I shall try that out thank you. I had got some of the layout from a tutorial of which I assume to be outdated.

There is nothing wrong with your engine or connections. Use a toggle button instead of the key button you are using to start the engine, and keep in mind that you need to give the engine some throttle before it can actually start.

Also, you need gearboxes after the clutch, and a considerably bigger engine than that. Even with 1:3 gear reduction (meaning the gearbox is set to 3:1, and the arrow is pointed towards the propellers to increase torque at the expense of RPS), the boat can only crawl forward.

Edit: Oh, you do have a gearbox apparently, but it is pointing in the wrong direction.

Well I shall try and make those adjustments now. Thanks for the input.

Well it seems to work now so thank you for your help. Thank you for taking part of your time to look over this

Don't worry, I watched a tutorial, then created my own boat, and it wouldn't start. Turns out I didn't have something connected somewhere piping wise. Once it got going it was as exciting as driving a car for the first time all those years ago. Yeah stupid, but it was about 3-4 hours of my time. Haha.

It gets better. You'll make even better boat(s) with more feechurrrs. And realize it too, won't start. Oops I suppose putting the air intake inside the sealed compartment doesn't allow the engine to breath whatsoever 😂. Lojicks....

That's why I created a custom ECU xD. I got tired of trying to program each individual modular engine to run proper and without flinging 3 different throttle levers around.
