welcome to stormworks my friend
I'm not sure if it works anymore, but I was able to get a small single cylinder engine to continue running until it had no fuel despite being on fire and having vehicle damage on. It just kept chugging along despite literally everything in the assembly being totalled.
There are probably more ways that the modular engines can work where they shouldn't.

I also tried using an air filter instead of the fluid intake and it sill worked. Can anyone try it ? to see if it's a local quirk or an actual bug depending on engine setup.
so i guess we found out the true meaning of stormworks
