Stormworks: Build and Rescue

Stormworks: Build and Rescue

My Helicopter refuses to take off no mater what I do.
My chopper is is a work of art I would say with 3 Diesel Engines, 4 Fuel Tanks, a couple Batteries and a Unique Body Design but several times when I Start my Helicopter up and push the throttle it just wont take off no mater if I increase the RPM limit or not or do other stuff like using bigger rotor blades or more blades it just wont take off. I have tried everything I could think of and it still wont take off. I am thinking it might be too heavy but there is nothing I can do about that. I also cant complete the missions if my chopper wont even lift off the ground at all.

I found it. Okay, a few things.

1. You are SEVERELY overweight yet overpowered for he size of chopper. One medium engine is more than enough for that size craft, but you have three along with four large tanks. They weigh a lot. Lose two engines and you will still have more than enough power, even with the four tanks. I also found several layers of interior blocks that weren't needed (such as the ones in the engine compartment covering the pipes in the back.)
2. You're main rotor needs to be mostly centered over your center of mass. right with all he excess weight, the rotor is too far forward. Also, you need to extend your tail rotor out. It's too close and breaking main rotor blades, and will be a bigger problem after you adjust the main rotor location (put it on after you are done with everything else, so you know exactly where it needs to be.)
3. Use a gearbox with the arrow facing TOWARD the engine. You can set the second stage of the gearbox at a 3:1 and wire it to a toggle. Adjust your engine's RPS to max of 30 and set the power to max 90%. Along with that, set you're gyro's max throttle level to 90% (it fixes a bug with gyro stability and these settings have worked best for me with these size of choppers.) Both the top rotor and tail rotor have to connect after the gearbox, so you will need to do some pipe modifications. This will also give you considerably better fuel mileage and you may decide you don't need so many tanks.
4. Lose the excess batteries. The one medium battery in the center is all you need. A small will do, but it can run dead easy of you aren't watching your charge or don't leave the engine running on short hops, so a medium is okay. You have more than enough lifting power wit one engine and that size rotor. Add a small generator to the drive line after the gearbox using a T-pipe. If you find the battery seems to go dead, upgrade it to a medium generator (or get in the habit of leaving the engine running at low throttle when your landed.)
5. Double-check all of your connections after making these modifications, being sure to wire everything into the electric grid. I found your gyro was not connected to your main rotor.

These next suggestions aren't necessary, but can make life easier.

1. I would use a normal push button to start the engine if you don't know how to wire in pulse logic controllers. It really only takes a second of ignition to start the engine and if you're leaving the key ignition on, you are killing your batteries for no reason. Once it's running, it will stay running until you cut the throttle.
2. Either use toggle buttons you can see or wire thy gyro and gearbox toggles to indicator lights so you know for sure they are actually on and working. Early on, I fought trying to build copters because I kept forgetting to turn the gyro on. Any more, I wire it to be on by default It's no fun dying right out of the hanger on rogue mode cause I forgot to turn on the gyro! LOL!)

If you could share the chopper, it would be easier for everyone to help you troubleshoot it. At first glance, if it has three of the large diesel engines, it's probably severely overweight, unless you're referring to the small engines, in which case weight could still be the issue but it's hard to say without seeing the design. It could be severely underpowered if you're trying to lift a large heli with small engines.

We just need more information.

Well I don't know how to get a pic on here. I do have it captured but its how to post it here that I don't know.

You could upload the vehicle file from within game to the steam workshop and post the link to the vehicle.

Well I took the pic using the Steam Camera function which is F12 on my keyboard which is how you take pictures in steam related games.

I have tried removing 1 or 2 engines and I still did not have enough power to lift off so its apparently not the weight and btw I still dont know how to send a pic of my chopper here

Regarding the helicopter that cannot take off.
To me it sound mostly like a control issue.
Double check that you assigned the "collective" to example keyboard arrow up and down key.
AND be aware if you build your helicopter using the "double" tool that copy what you do on one side and build the same on the other, then your engines might work against each other, since they turn in the wrong direction.
Maybe try to disable two of your engines so only one is spinning.
AND also you only need small generators to make electricity for your helicopter, so if you used a medium one then its very heavy and your engines will suffer allot and create little energy for your rotor since the generator takes it all.

Also be aware that if you helicopter is very big and heavy then example a small rotor is not enough to fly with a single engine.. But i know you have 3 so you should have enough power though.. ( the "ordinary" small rotor is only for light 2-4 seat helicopters and they typical cant sling cargo from a-z due ot lack of engine power or rotor lift. )

But i think the main problems is something is not connected properbly with the controls.
Try to make a green line from the rotors collective to the pilots seats collective button.

Well all my controls are set up correct and regarding the Generators I don't have any and even if I did, I would not know where to put them. But I do have 3 medium batteries that provide power to my 3 Engines, Instruments, and S&R Gear (Which includes a Large Rotational Camera and a Search Light). And I am using the biggest main rotor in the game and set it at 5 blades and the tail rotor at 4 blades and I already tried removing 1 or 2 of my engines but I still did not get off the ground (And they are all facing the same direction by the way) so its either Weight or Lack of Power that's holding my chopper down. And by the way, the chopper I have looks big to me but to be able to show you what it looks like well I still don't know how to send the pictures I took in game to this chat.

If you take a screenshot using Steam (F12) then when you exit the game, you should have a window that shows all of your screenshots. There's an upload button there allowing you to upload them to Steam. You can copy that link from steam and paste it here.

I have the pics but the upload button does not tell me where on steam they are going though.

Go up to your account name and on the dropdown list click "Content" If you uploaded any screenshots, that's where they will be

Well there it is, my biggest Coast Guard Helicopter yet.

Please upload it to the steam workshop and post a link here, then we can take it appart and try the heli our self and help you make it fly ;-)

ps. I think you need to use the aircraft engine to lift that helicopter. It look big and heavy, and you also use the biggest rotor in the game wich require some power to use. ;-)

That is a good suggestion but fyi when I used the smaller rotor I still did not get off the ground and I also don't know how to post it on the workshop.

Inside the vehicle editor, there is a steam workshop button that lets you upload it directly.
