can you use empty tanks as floats?
or is that not possible?

Sadly, they don't function so well as floats, even if they do float.

as Rasputin said, yes they float but not to good. I used a empty small tank to let the hook of a winch float so it does not sink.

Large tanke should float better or equal to floats (1/45 denisity), but small (1/2 density - as slope block) and medium (1/12 density) are not that good
