Using Harnesses with new Winches
I have been trying for days to get the harness hotkeys to work with the new winches but nothing works. So I have placed the winch on the helicopter and then attached a pivot to the helicopter and attached the electric anchor cable to this. I have then connected the anchor to the winch using rope logic. I have then connected a harness to the anchor cable. once everything has power I can use the hotkeys to operate the winch but the anchor cable block remains attached to the pivot and the rope just spills out and the harness doesn't move. If I then delete the pivot the electric anchor block will hang from the winch but the hotkeys no longer work. I was happy with the old winches but the new ones seem overly complicated. Any assistance on using the harness hot keys to control the new winches would be appreciated as it is getting frustrating now.

I am just hoping this week's(?) update addresses the shortcomings of the new winch system. In the meantime, I am staying away from anything winch related :/

Thanks. I have workround now. i can still use the one deprecated (old winch) i have to control a new winch. I can still do winch rescues in single player by attaching a harness to my old winch and the slaving the new winch from it. Hopefully the next update will address the issue. :O)

i think i have an idea of what you did and why it didnt work. you have to make the rope block a separate grid. also need to make sure the winch is powered. i failed on that part on my first load in from not playing for a while. would it be possible to upload what you did to have a direct look at it?

The only problem with harness is that it currently has no composite output like every other seat out there, so you need a sizeable microcontroller to actually squeeze the signals into composite signal, which makes the whole harness thing more than a little bit big.

As far as connecting signals goes, connections aren't supposed to work between separate grids. The winch was the only exception there. Electric anchor and at least a medium sized winch is able to communicate a composite signal between them using the input & output on the anchor and winch respectively

This is still an issue.
Direct controls will not work even though its described in the control setup in logic.

It kinda feels like that if youre arent a master in custom microcontrollers, nobody will even move to help you here.. Too bad for the community in general.

It's really not an issue now that they do have a composite output. You just interpret the composite through a microcontroller as normal.

Hey! I know this is very old, but this is for anyone else currently wondering how to solve this. Basically the issue is that the harness is part of the same "grid" as the rest of the heli, so anywhere the heli moves, the harness moves as if it's attached. To fix this, you can 1. make the harness, then cut and repaste it into the same spot so it becomes it's own body. Second, you can build a pivot, build off that pivot, then delete the pivot. This also makes it it's own body.
