Water cannon help
i have 20 pumps 2 intakes and water maybe shoots 10ft im pumping right from ocean is that the issue? do i need to make a dynamic tank for water pressure ?

It takes a little while for the pumps to spool up properly when firing water out of a jet. The ammount of pumps can be a hinder but intake volume will always put a cap on your total pressure.

In my experience anyway.

How do you have your pumps set up? I found it works best when you loop them, so: pump --> pump --> pump --> pump --> pump --> fluid cannon. It seems to accelerate the water, if that makes sense.

Do you really need a valve though? So far I haven't used them yet.

I thought fluids couldn't transmit through an un-ended pipe

True. My bad. It should be Fluid port>P>P>P>Valve>Cannon

I know this is necro and the game has changed, but I really do not understand why I get no pressure. I barely managed to get a 1meter stream with 4 small pumps, now I got 4 large pumps in a row and the water barely even leaves the end of the nozzle.it literally just spurts out a little cloud of water from the very tip. wtf why is this so damn hard?

Look at the pressure being output. Give me a moment to make a quick example.

i experimented alot with Pumps so far, and it seems that if you put a Pump just before the nozzle, no matter from where the Water comes or what is before the Pump, the Pressure is at max. You just shouldnt put anything between the pump and nozzle, except ofcourse pipes, otherwise the Water Pressure will get lower. Also, it made for me no difference how many Pumps i use, one os totally enough for the max possible Pressure.

For example:

Ocean -> Pipe -> Valve -> Pipe -> Pump -> Pipe -> Nozzle = 10,0 Pressure

Ocean -> Pipe -> Valve -> Pipe -> Pump -> Pump -> Pump -> Pipe -> Nozzle = 10,0 Pressure

Ocean -> Pipe -> Pump -> Pipe -> Valve -> Pipe -> Nozzle = 7,0 Pressure

Ocean -> Pipe -> Pump -> Pump -> Pump -> Pipe -> Valve -> Pipe -> Nozzle = 7,0 Pressure

But thats just my experience so far.

Sorry, but that's just completely untrue, Soldner. It has little to no bearing where the pump is, i added your "pump against output" here and it's no different to a single pump placed far back.

Also there's no purpose to a valve as a pump already acts as a directional valve.

Well, i got my experience from trying to build tanks with functional turrets, and there i made the experience that it does matter where the Pump is. If i placed the Pump before for example Pivots or fluid anchors the Pressure was significantly lower compared to when i put it behind these and directly behind the nozzle, with just some pipes in between. But i could also be wrong and that all was just conicidence. Nobody is perfect. haha

Generally speaking you want as clean a test environment as possible. Remember that fluid needs force to move upwards specifically, and likely also has a limit for the length it can move when it's unpressurized (i don't work with systems that don't have pressure so i really haven't figured the exacts out). That's why you end up making testbeds like that quite a bit in the game when doing mechanics

Solved?

So after hours of testing and figuring out why my custom built water turret doesn't work, I've found the following issues:

- DO NOT use fluid valve of any kind
- DO NOT use a fluid filter

Aside from building a correct pumping system (See Ra-Ra-Rasputin's post above on how to build the best system, I've used that test bed and my own to test this out). The two types of block mentioned above should not exist anywhere in your system, be it the in-game Water Cannon or your own custom built cannon. Any fluid that pass through these blocks will lower its water pressure.

You would think a valve would actually build up pressure and create a burst of water upon release like real life. However, this is not the case in Stormworks ;(

You can just hook up the pumps on/off directly to a firing button for the water cannon, it would work fine and pressure should build up correctly.

The fluid filter make sense in lowing water pressure, since it has to "filter" out other fluids it would slow the fluid flow.

These results are tested and effective in v0.10.30, they may be subject to change in the future :)

I could not find out why my fluid cannon does not work, and there were no information in internet. The problem was: if you set it on your deck removing 9 blocks of the deck so only the gun is above the deck it does not work. If you set it on your deck so that above the deck there are 9 white cubes and then the gun, it works.
