it also depends on the thickness of your ships hull. If its the average 1 block wide, it can easily get damaged and begin to take on water. The more block layers, the less damage that gets through.
The final factor is the part of the hull your hit on. If you had walls inside your hull, they would stop the water from going everywhere and only make that part with the damage heavier with the water instead of the whole ship sinking.
I thought that was pretty cool. ...but would be nice to see or tell what parts are damaged in such case. Even if the hull blocks just disappeared that caused the leak.
Hm, do you have seperate fuel tanks, like on either side of your boat? If so the fuel might be sloshing to a single tank making the center of mass uneven. You might want to add fluid flow valves to stop that.
Yeah, lots of tanks... and I s'pose that's possible. However, this is meant to be a starter boat so fluid flow valves are not available from beginning of game.
At first I had 18 Med tanks stringed together. I have since modified the design a bit so just 6 Med tanks now with a larger custom tank. I need to keep some of the pre-built tanks in the design because 1) fuel spawn cubes are not available blocks at startup and I would like to have at least 1/3 of the fuel spawn if people do not have "Limited Fuel" selected... and 2) the Fluid Meter block is not available at startup so I need the pre-built tanks to estimate the fuel remaining.
Interesting point though. On my updated design the custom tank spans from one side of the hull to the other. Might improve stability to elongate the tank making it narrower and running down the center of the hull?
Well, I'm only used to sandbox creations so I cant think of a solution at the moment, sorry
Didn't really pose it as a problem... more an example related to boats sinking. But you did raise a good point, might not be damage that sunk the boat at all, but fuel imbalance. So I might need to investigate this a bit.
