If you make a row of either small connectors or fluid connectors, and have a cable hang behind an aircraft, this will have the effect of quite a violent arrestor. Alternatively you can also use a mag-all on the plane which will allow attaching to any surface. You can use piston suspension to reduce the shock of the wire clamping on, but keep in mind piston suppression can only reduce compression so you'll have to build it pointing inward.
There's also probably a way to incorporate it on a track that will apply gradual brakes to bring it all to a halt, so there's plenty of designs to try out. The only real problem is consistently catching the arrestor "hook" in this case.
I can probably make a few mock designs in an hour or two to better explain what i have in mind, but i'll be preoccupied for at least the next 2 hours.

There's plenty of different designs. The amount of power they all use is pretty promising. The leftmost arrester (wheeled) is probably the most versatile of the entire set, as it can be made to apply variable brakes based on the speed its moving, and you can hide most of it underneath the deck.
