Am i crazy or are helicopter crazy fuel efficient ?
With my most fuel efficient small boat i was reaching about 2.2L / km which i was pretty happy with at 12m/s and my travel one is 5.5L/km at 27m/s it felt great to make.

but now i just made my first attempt at an helicopter, using electric powered medium motor and 4 small diesel motor to run a medium alternator. im hitting 25m/s travel speed with 1.8L / km and thats just a very prototype / basic attempt. That thing is like 6 times bigger than my speed boat and has 3 times the fuel efficiency at similar speed....

Did i stumble on a stupidly efficient design? are helicopter poorly balanced ? or am i really bad at designing boat in this game ? (i mean.... one would think that pulling metal against gravity using air would need more energy than doing the same against water XD). granted i suppose theres less resistance moving through air than water but even then.

with just 4 medium tank (the stock ones, not custom tanks), it can fly for about 1h40min real time.

Helicopters are very fuel efficient when they're just moving the helicopter themselves or people around. There's very little resistance on the blades. If you want to go fast however, this fuel efficiency often flies out of the window very quickly in a lot of cases.

The roughly around 27m/s is a slow helicopter, that relies on only tilting its body to move forward. It's the most basic kind you can make, but it's very reliable and easy to use as a result.

The next section of my waffling guide on engines will be featuring prop-tilted helicopters that can hit very high speeds.

Also, if compared to realistic fuel efficiency, 2.2L/km isn't very efficient. Your average car uses about 10L/100km in city driving conditions, half that on the freeway :)

im not considering comparing it with rl :P since as far as i know, boats and car in game cant come near to rl fuel efficiency xD.

I'm sure its slow and yes its a tilting helicopter, but the part that worries me is how out of balance it is compared to wheeled vehicle and boats as far as i could achieve.

My fuel efficiency car at half throttle can do 5km (at least in theory) with 1L of fuel. Yes, before you ask, it's a hybrid :lunar2019piginablanket:

thats cool xD. i didnt mess around with car much yet (since im still mostly stuck on small islands anyway). i did visit a rather large one but i rather get a handle on the little missions around the beginner zone first haha.

Still it feel awfully wrong how easy it is to achieve a heli with enough fuel efficiency to spit on most early game mission (and especially spit on the work new player put on their first few boats XD).

I didnt follow any guide or anything to make that helicopter work, i just threw around something together, tweaked a bit the values spit by the gyro because that thing seem a bit intense, and welp, it flew rather well xD.

Well, the thing is you're comparing heli fuel efficiency to boats!
A big yacht that's used for fun can easily have a good 10,000L of fuel in it, though in the game boats are quite fuel efficient for the most part!

I'm not comparing it to a yatch tho, im comparing it to a little boat barely large enough to fit 1 person :P.

Well yeah, but even a small outboard guzzles fuel. Something like a 100hp (which is small) outboard can happily use 300L per 100km

If you want a fuel efficient/cheap and easy heli then have a look at this one.
I did not make it, but updated it so it does not overheat.
It is great for transporting people or scouting island for boxes.

thanks but im not a big fan of taking premade things :P. 90% of the fun in the game to me is to build the thing.

Pff, that's nowhere as cheap as mine! Mine even looks cheap, so there!
