Compressed air?
Anyone else think compressed air would be so nice in this game? It could help a lot in making submarines and fix boat floating points

It's just my take, but if you expect real-time simulations to accurately represent things like water displacement, you're a little bit silly.

Stormworks has, by far, the most accurate water physics of any game i've bumped into so far. That doesn't mean it's very accurate compared to real life, but it means that they've taken into account most of the factors and worked them in with both performance and quality in mind.

Yes, there are strange quirks, like the fact that if you know how, you can make a submersible that shatters the sound barrier, but things are still being worked out.

I agree on both counts! I am being silly, and Stormworks is awesome!
I guess what I mean't to say was that many of us have some real world experience with machinery in varying capacities and have some idea of how they are supposed to work; and it can be a little frustrating when things don't work the way we 'know' they should.
But, I guess therein lies the fun of figuring it all out.
Either way, your 100% right.

Hello, I'm working on a submarine now that would benefit from having compressed air; but in lieu of having it I've managed to work out a system of pumps on it's own electrical system that does the trick...at least sort of.
To be fair, during my research I've found that submarines use very little compressed air to surface (usually just enough to become positively buoyant) then they blow the rest of the water out when on the surface with low pressure air at around 10 psi. DSV's usually drop a certain amount of ballast weight to become buoyant. We can make both those systems in Stormworks currently.
Also, I have to wonder how hard it would be to even implement compressed air, as we would probably need a whole new set of parts (or a rework of our current parts) to accomplish it.
Food for thought, take care!

I have a combined, pump / water jet engines system. Pumps can only operate to 100m and they are mostly crap at that deep, if you use jet engines connected to your main engine crankshaft you can empty your ballast way deeper. Still, cheap trick, compressed air would be way cooler (no pun intended).

Yeah man, but this way you need to do research too! I take as some sort of physics distopia where you first need to do research to understand the world. It's funnier and less frustrating this way.

It actually wouldn't be difficult to implement. Pressure systems already are in, all you need to do is have the tanks (premade, and custom) to be able to accept and record pressure

pretty sure compressed air is already a thing. You can fill premade tanks, not custom, with air, and then use that air to feed a diesel underwater. There is a submarine on the workshop that uses this system.

It's possible but air amount in the tanks won't allow for a meaningful amount of engine run. It will work in a pinch for emergency power. Compressed air would be a multiplier on the tank contents. Additionally with engines you're going to need to determine what to do with the exhaust when at depth. At some point the pressure will be too much that you can't dump it and will need to store it off.
