This game NEEDS mesh import
Just bought this game . Pretty cool so far . It certanly has huge potential for nerds like me . What nerds like me don´t really like tho are blocky ships . I could make way better looking ships in 5 minutes then everything ever made in this builder in a 3d modelling software . those would also have way less performance impact overall . So as an option this would be imense !

so what you are looking for isn't what this game offers, find another one

Mesh import doesn´t mean no blocky ships anymore . I mean it as an addition for more immersive stuff . This is pretty close to what ive been looking since a long time .

This game HAS mesh import. If you are TRUE nerd. Not wannabe-nerd teenager

I don´t really wanna be a teenager again thanks . I suppose if you can modifyde a game so much , you might as well make your own game .

It is not THAT hard. Just have a look at <..>/Strormworks/rom folder. All meshes are .mesh files. all descriptions are in xml format. It's easy. Different people already done it: custom blocks and even islands. It just not that fun as it sounds.
" I could make way better looking ships in 5 minutes then everything ever made in this builder in a 3d modelling software"

I challenge you to do that then. 5 Minutes. Not more.

"those would also have way less performance impact overall"

Performance is also tied to the Amount of Logic used. Which you couldn't do via a Imported Mesh.

Im pretty sure i could make soemthing nice looking in 5 minutes that fits the low poly style of the game . But yea that 5 minute part was obviusly a bit of a joke .

I got plenty of naval vessels i made over time already . I would love to finally ride them

Making curves with blocks needs allot of blocks and so it needs allot of verts . Meanwhile in modelling its pretty easy and efficient to do and it also looks way better . Problem would of course be how to define the collision box of the mesh you imported into the builder . Giving every single face a collision box eats allot of computing power after all

Soo you basically destroyed your own Performance Argument. ;P I believe it's good as it is since it requires a bit of Imagination to get Stuff looking good. Using a 3D Software would be to easy for some and even harder for some People to build something nice. Also: Doing nice Curves in a 3D Software requires a lot of Vertices too. Getting a Mesh with a lot of Vertices would probably kill Performance aswell.

Oh and watch out what you're saying then. Im gonna be waiting on your 5 Minute Attempt :P

Yes i agree . Ah well i still think it would be a nice option . I didn´t mean it like "remove your builder and make it 3d modelling only" more like making it maybe a hidden option in a folder for some nerds . But i can imagin people being annoyed when they spend days trying to make soemthing realistic looking , and then all the sudden a guy with a photorealistic Bismark floats by

Hey i can at least make nicer stuff in a 3d software then what i did so far in Stormworks for sure XD
Learn to get good in Stormworks then xD

(I need to get gud at 3D Modelling honestly - still learning the Basics)

i want to modify some islands. but how i can open or even change .mesh file? i had tried to do this but had fail)

Why would you necro a year old thread full of pointless bickering?

The .mesh file is likely a renamed model file like .obj, but the extension also exists as godot engine file, but you can find it out what it is by opening the file and reading its headers.

nope... i try to change extension of file to .obj and to .dae but blender throw errors in second case . At first case import was successful but i had empty mesh without vertexes. fbx i tried too... had fail to

Well, that was my best guess. I tried to look at it myself, but i guess the easiest/fastest way is to ask the developers themselves. I can't make heads or tails of it either

I think mesh import could come later on. I have built some stuff in Blender that would be fun to see work, but I don't think it really fits the aesthetic of the game (importing creations that don't fit the blocky, low-poly sort of feel). Hitboxes are also a concern, and snapping (since parts are made from blocks) would also be an issue, because it would presumably only work with in-game systems (engines, etc.)
