no black screen, only crash crash crash in career mode with last update game
I still have a totally black screen on startup and haven't heard anything in the way of a response here or on the Discord channel. Is there any hope? Impending updates? Do you need more information?
Or should I refund until the game officially launches and then try again?
I have discovered a conflict between the game and AMD's FreeSync technology. I have a Samsung monitor which works with AMD's FreeSync software, however with FreeSync active the game drops out to a black screen. In fact, I got a complete signal loss to the monitor and my only way around that was to restart the computer. Turning off FreeSync has cured the problem, but obvioulsy loses the benefit of Freesync. Never used to have this issue, it only occurred in one of the recent patches. Try switching off FreeSync and see if that works, maybe you're having the same problem?
How recent? Can you check is it working with Freesync right now on v0.6.5?
If you are in windowed mode and have FreeSync active, changing to fullscreen causes a black screen to be output, eventually giving a loss of signal to the monitor. Using the monitor's built in menu to switch FreeSync off brings the signal back with the game now in fullscreen mode. Switching FreeSync on via the monitor menu whilst in Fullscreen now allows FreeSync to work.
This frustrating issue arose when the game started restarting in windowed mode, as trying to reset to fullscreen causes a blackscreen. This is still the case, however I can now get around that by using the monitors in-built menu to switch FreeSync off and then on again, a la the IT Crowd.
Also, make a copy of stormworks.exe for future tests just in case. Today it will be updated to v0.6.6 with a possible fix.
