Game Design Reasons™

Should be ~15.7 liters per block. Default fluid tanks are "cheated" so to speak so they have near full block volume.

Small one is ~30l
Medium one is ~187l
Large one is ~705l

The info used to be on their officially neglected wiki before somebody removed it (prolly by accident).

Whatever is your limit does not prevent the number to overflow, so that's a plus i guess :3 (as in even +-1 dial will display correct value when you aim at it, then you can adjust the limit based off of that).

Anyone calculated if default fuel tanks are more efficient than custom fuel tanks for the same space? :) Might be an interesting problem given pipe placement, stacking efficiency, diagonal blocks on custom tanks, etc etc.

The prefab tanks have close to or exactly the same volume of fluid as their own. Which you can't do with custom tanks as you have to build with 25cm thick walls (you get 50% more efficiency building with wedges).

So for the same fluid volume it'll be larger by 25cm on each side.

This info was also present on the wiki some months back.

Yeah, I've noticed that, but how does it scale with volume? Lets say you need the capacity of... 50 large fuel tanks, in a square space. Is it still better, given all the piping you need to do? Custom fuel tanks obviously get better the larger they are, while the default tanks get worse, I think.

Yet another random dumb Stormworks problem to think about lol

I recommend checking out the #faq channel on the stormworks discord because it has fuel capacities and a lot of other details that should probably be part of the in-game part descriptions.

It depends on size, but custom tanks will eventually be better and you can also have multiple I/O for these.

^^ this.
Why would you want to delete threads that have answered your question(s)? That's not how a forum works...
let what die?

Because deleting a thread with a question answered is absurd and idiotic.
Shillelagh Mar 3, 2021 @ 1:57pm
I would love to know what this was about.

As if anyone realistically has done that for any reason to anyone not of significantly widespread ill repute at any point in time. These are the ill-effects of delusions of grandeur, and i assure you most everyone gets them at some point. You or i aren't internet (in)famous enough, people simply won't go through that amount of trouble.

Your question should always remain publicly accessible to other users, that's the entire point of posing the question in public. It's basic courtesy to leave an answered question up so in case someone else has that exact same question they can look up the answer you got. Deleting answered threads for any reason whatsoever is not something i can condone or ever understand. We're not simply answering a question specifically and personally for you, we're answering it for (hopefully) everyone who has that question.

By choosing to fuss about and try to remove it for some entirely temporary personal reason is not only disrespectful for the people that took the time to answer your question, but also to anyone and everyone who wants to know the answer. Whether you or someone else posed the question doesn't matter in the long run. You're just someone who wanted to know something about the game that wasn't readily available before your question.
