Fluid spawner (Ballast tank)
Hey,

I'm trying to make my first ballast tank. I fit a fluid spawner to 'empty' inside it (if it's set to water the tank begins full). But there is no way to fill the tank when needed.

Outside (bottom of keel) -> Inside:

Fluid port -> Small pump -> Fluid port
That easy, connections are ok, power, on/off, etc, not working. I've made an enclosed fuel tank and was working fine so idk.

Thanks

I've found a workaround but, idk, it's not what I want. I set the spawner to water and then I bail out the water.

If you're making a submarine, most ballasts are actually just an open space with large fluid pumps inside. There are generally two interlinked so that it still works in deep water and there's obviously one that flows the opposite way to allow to empty the ballast. There's a fluid meter or whatever it's called inside to measure the volume as well.

If by fluid spawner you mean a fluid tank, it's probably not gonna work. Ballasts work by keeping a bubble of air in an enclosed space, which makes the vehicle float due to the lower density. By filling the ballasts, you make the vehicle more dense than water and it starts sinking, which I don't think is possible with fluid tanks.

Check the position of the fluid port for the intake side. My friend and I made a fire fighting sea plan e and we could not get the damn thing to suck up water. turned out having the fluid ports in line with sloped blocks made the fluid port not think it was in the water. I extended the fluid ports one pipe length outside of the lower hull and the plane now takes in water as designed.

same problem here, fluid port -> small pump -> fluid port. The inside fluid port shows particles of fluid coming out, but my tank isn't filling up with water. There's a fluid spawner set to empty

I am not sure of this but I beleive that you need to remove the fluid spawner. I think that the spawner is constantly setting the room to zero

No, that doesn't work either. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1849144467 this is my test model. I can see particles coming out inside the tank, but it's not filling up

AND NOW IT SUDDENLY WORKS?! anyways, it works

There's a bug. If there's a fluid spawned that's is set to 'empty' you will never be able to fill that place with water. Anyways, if there's no hole it shouldn't spawn any water.

I was looking for answers... I think that this might be my problem... This is so dumb. They did not fix it since 2019? really?

If it was the only thing they haven't fixed in years... welcome to stormworks, where adding stuff to lure and trick new players is more important than fixing bugs.

I just tested it and it works fine being in line with all types of sloped blocks. Maybe there's a specific geometry that has an issue.

So I will try to remodel all my ballasts tanks to be without slopes then. Just to be sure.

Might be a good idea to use the new pumps too, they seem to be more powerfull than the electric ones, so less pumps needed, and working better at greater depth (haven't tried it, but flow and pressure seem to be OP when seeing some firefighting vehicles spraying water out of render distance)

Well, they work at greater depth in stark contrast to the electric pumps (which doesn't work at all below a certain depth), but they are still pitifully slow. I haven't experimented much with them though. Maybe they can be made to withstand pressure better, somehow.

No there is a problem here... how is that even possible. I will save my files and reinstall stormworks.... Somehting is broken. How can a pump have flow when it is off?
I tried for hours now to fix my ballast systems and it does not work. I managed to build ballast systems in the past....
