is there really no in game chat in multiplayer?

i know there is chat when you press escape to the menu but playing the game there is no instant chat option?

Discord, Mumble, Teamspeak, heck.. even google hangouts and skype.

I for one happy there is not text chat..

Multiplayer text chat does exist in very basic form, while in game press escape, there is a small text box on the lower left that you can type messages into, these messages will appear in game to your fellow players

There is a simple chat but it isn't very refined

Never had a problem using the escape chat, it is kind of convenient because it works in editor fine, while i agree that we could use a chat key, i don't think it should fall high on the todo list.

Lets get playable mp fps w/o crashes first ;)
